Wrentham’s Trash Program - FAQs

1. How much trash is allowed to be disposed each week?

ANSWER: One 34 gallon barrel or 35 pounds of trash per household is allowed. One bulk item, such as a carpet, wood (bundled in 4 ft lengths), a couch, chair, mattress and box spring is allowed.

2. What do I do if I have more than 34 gallons/35 lbs of trash?

ANSWER: Excess trash must be placed in purple bags. There is no limit to the amount of purple bags you can dispose of. You may purchase these bags from:

Cataldo's Hardware

Cumberland Farms

Mobil Station (corner of Randall Road)

Sheldonville Country Store

Shaw's in Franklin

Stop & Shop (Franklin, Foxboro and Plainville)

Purple trash bags are not available at Town Hall.

3. When do I have to put my trash and recyclables at the curb?

ANSWER: It is best to have your trash and recyclables curbside by 7:00 a.m.

4. How do holidays affect trash/recyclable pick-up?

ANSWER: Trash and recycling will not be collected on holidays observed by Town Offices. Holidays delay collection by one day.

5. What is considered a recyclable item?

ANSWER: Recyclable items can be co-mingled. Paper (white, colored, newspapers), magazines, catalogs, telephone books, paperboard (cereal, cracker boxes), milk and juice cartons, all plastic labeled 1-7, metal food cans, aluminum cans, glass bottles and jars, clean meat trays, aseptic juice boxes

6. What is considered a non-recyclable item?

No styrofoam. Plastic bags should be recycled at grocery stores.

7. What should I do with larger metal items and appliances?

ANSWER: Wednesdays are metal and appliance pick-up days. Call Waste Management at (800) 972-4545, (any extension will transfer you to the Call Center) - Hours: 8: 00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schedule pick-up one week in advance. Items must be on the curb by 7:00 a.m. Be sure to take off doors of refrigerators, and stoves. Microwaves, water heaters, washers and dryers are also accepted.

8. Where can I bring my grass clippings, leaves, brush, Christmas trees?

ANSWER: Most of the above can be deposited on the compost heap at the DPW site. All yard waste requires a permit ($20.00 per calendar year). Check with the DPW office at (508) 384-5477.

9. Am I allowed to take composted material from the DPW for my yard and garden?

ANSWER: Yes. The DPW collects yard waste and regularly aerates it so that the compost produced can be used by Wrentham residents for their yards.

10. I have tires, oil based paint, old pesticides/fertilizers and other chemicals. Where can I take them for disposal?

ANSWER: These items are considered hazardous waste so you cannot dispose of them in the regular trash. Store these items until Household Hazardous Waste Day, which is held every year at the Wrentham DPW site in May. You may take these items on that day and dispose of most items for free and others, such as tires, for a nominal fee.
