How to program spectrum remote to cisco cable box

By Jacob Reis i Jupiterimages/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images As home entertainment benefits from the impressive boom in technology over the last couple of decades, consumers are rushing to buy and install the latest in movie-watching devices. Recently, DVD use has begun to decline as the era of Blu-Ray draws near. The newest devices make our movies look more real than ever. While many people will happily take the burden of half-dozen remote controls, others will search out ways to consolidate remote usage. One such function of the Comcast remote control is the ability to program it to use your Blu-Ray player. Open the pamphlet that came with your Comcast remote control, or download the pamphlet from the Comcast website. This pamphlet lists all of the instructions for use of your remote control as well as a list of makers of TVs and devices with a set of codes. These codes are what you will use in later steps to try and get your remote to work with your Blu-Ray player. Follow the instructions for programming your auxiliary player. Normally, you will press the "Aux" button, then hold the "Setup" button until the "Aux" button flashes twice. You will then enter the code that corresponds to the brand of Blu-Ray player that you want to use. This syncs the Comcast remote to the frequency that the Blu-Ray player expects to receive from its own remote. It tricks the Blu-Ray player into thinking that the Comcast remote is the Blu-Ray remote. Observe, as the "Aux" button will flash twice if a valid code has been entered. Point the remote at the Blu-Ray player, and press "Aux" then "Power." If the Blu-Ray player switches on or off, then it works. If not, proceed to the next code on the list for your maker of Blu-Ray player. Once you've found a code that works, experiment with the different functions that your Comcast remote can perform. Usually, these include same buttons that you would use when controlling an On-Demand movie or TV show. To use these buttons for your TV instead, press TV then the buttons you want to use. If in doubt, press the "Aux," "TV" or "Cable" buttons before the button you want to push to ensure that the appropriate device will function. If none of the codes work, go to the Comcast website and enter the make and model of your device for the most updated codes. If your make and model are found, then you will be presented with the codes that will work for your device. Enter these as you have entered the codes in the previous steps. If this does not work, contact Comcast Customer Service for a solution. Some devices are not compatible with the Comcast remote. By Alexis Rohlin i Polka Dot Images/Polka Dot/Getty Images Comcast network's cable TV service is now called XFINITY TV. XFINITY cable comes with three different types of cable boxes; standard or basic digital cable, DVR and HD DVR. Set-top boxes are required to access the Comcast digital cable search menu, movies ON DEMAND and HD channels. The digital cable box is the new standard or basic set-top box for Comcast cable. It is not DVR capable, but does provide HD channels. Digital cable uses a coaxial cable and compresses TV signals into data and transfers it to your TV without any loss of quality of picture or sound. The digital cable box is also called a digital converter box. It contains a small computer that processes digital cable signals and sends information back to the signal processing center so you can change channels and watch movies and programs On DEMAND. The DVR receiver is a Comcast digital set-top box that can record and play TV shows and movies. It can store up to 80 gigabytes or 45 hours of standard basic cable programming. With the DVR Receiver you can record one show and watch another channel, or you can record two shows while watching a previously recorded show. It has the standard Record and Play features which allows you to pause and rewind while watching live TV. You can even program it to record an entire series or season of your favorite shows so that you never miss an episode. The HD DVR set-top box has a higher storage capacity of up to 500 gigabytes. This means that it can save 300 hours of standard definition television, or 60 hours of HD television. The HD DVR has the same features as the DVR, with more storage capacity. It also is enabled with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound to give you the best sound quality to match your crisp HD picture on your TV. Currently there is no special set-top box for saving 3D channels as there is for standard or HD TV. If you have a TV that can support and display 3D channels, you can hook it up to any Comcast cable box that provides HD channels with a HDMI cable. By J. Anthony Cooley i Thomas Northcut/Photodisc/Getty Images Programming your Samsung remote to your cable box enables you to switch from controlling your TV to controlling your cable box with the press of a single button. Doing this frees up space as you only need your Samsung remote instead of having a small remote collection on your coffee table. Turn off your cable box. Press the "Cable" button on your remote so that the remote knows to sync with a cable box. If your remote does not have a dedicated cable button, press the "Mode" button on the remote. Press the "Set" button on the remote. This prepares the remote to accept the programming code. On some Samsung remotes, the "Set" button is tiny and indented, so you will need a paper clip or other pointy-tipped object to press the "Set" button. Locate the remote code for your cable box by going to the TV Codes website. Enter the code into the remote through the number pad. Point the remote at the cable box and press the "Power" button, this should turn on the cable box. If the cable box does not turn on, repeat the process using a different code. Continue to do so until you find a code that works. Comcast Cable service provides many channels including high-definition programming to your home through a cable box that will come with a universal remote that can be programmed to operate your television, DVD player and audio equipment connected to your home entertainment system. If you own a Trutech 15-inch television, the Comcast Cable system can search for a programming code that will connect the remote to the TV, giving you the ability to control the entire system from a distance. Power on your Trutech TV using the original remote that came with the television or -- if you do not have the remote -- the "Power" button that is located on the front panel of the device. Keep other electronic devices you may have connected to the system off during this time to prevent interference during the programming process. Before beginning, insert fresh AA batteries into the Comcast Cable remote to prevent power loss while you are programming. Push the "TV" input button located at the top of the Comcast Cable remote. Hold the "Setup" button on the remote until the "TV" light flashes two times. You are now in programming mode. You will have 30 seconds to begin the process. If you do not, you will have to hold the "Setup" button to begin again. Use the number pad in the center of the Comcast Cable remote to enter in the code "991." The "TV" input button will flash twice. This is a universal code that will begin the code search process for your Trutech TV. Push the "1" button without holding it down to indicate you are searching for a TV code. The "TV" button will flash twice again. Aim the Comcast Cable remote at the Trutech TV and push the "Power" button. Push the "Ch +" button. If the Trutech TV does not turn off, press it again. Keep pushing this button with a short pause between each press until the Trutech TV turns off. Press the "Setup" button to save the working code. The "TV" input button will flash twice once again to indicate that the code was saved properly. By Brandy Burgess i Jupiterimages/Comstock/Getty Images Cable boxes are provided to customers by television service providers. The cable box picks up a digital signal issued by the cable provider, allowing you to enjoy television programming in your home. Occasionally, a cable box must be reset. Sporadic freezing of the television screen is the most common cable box problem, which can typically be fixed without a visit from a cable technician. Resetting the cable box may be necessary to resolve such minor issues. Turn off the cable box using the power button located on the front of the device. The light on the front of the device will turn off. Unplug the attached power cord from the surge protector or electrical outlet. Leave the cable box unplugged for a minimum of 30 seconds. Plug the power cord attached to the cable box back into the surge protector or electrical outlet. Press the power button to turn the device on. Wait several minutes for the cable box to reconnect to the signal provided by the cable service provider. Once a connection is made, the television should return to normal programming. Turn off the cable box using the power button located on the front of the device. The power button on the remote control can also be used to power off the cable box. Press the "Enter" button on the remote control immediately after powering off the cable box. This should pull up a diagnostic screen on the television. Locate the information in the diagnostic box that provides the In-band and Out-of-Band SNRs. If the cable box signal is working properly, the diagnostic screen should read "Good." Contact your cable service provider and speak to a technical assistance technician. If neither the power cycle or signal strength check solves the problem, a cable technician may need to remotely reset your cable box or schedule a home visit. Skip navigation!
