Then the party will move outdoors where ten games will be played; each one representative of the ten Egyptian plagues.? Girls will get slimed, but I'm sure they will remember what the plagues are!?? They will not want to miss this party!??Welcome the girlsDevotion(The devotion should come first to set the groundwork for the rest of the party.)Are you ready to get messy? Slimy? Gross? Before we get to the slime part, I am going to set the background for our party today. We are going to play 10 games. Each one will correspond to one of the 10 plagues that God sent on the Egyptians. We like to think of God as being loving and kind, but He is also our Judge. In the Hebrew language, the word “shophet” (sho-PHAIT) means “to judge.” God is loving and kind, but He also judges sin, and He judges people when they die. If they haven’t accepted Him as Savior, He must be the judge and sentence them to an eternity in hell. Today, God the Shophet is going to send 10 plagues on the country of Egypt. The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for over 400 years. But God sent Moses to the Pharaoh, with the message, “Let My people Go.” Pharaoh says, “NO,” and the plagues begin. If you want to read all the details, when you get home read them starting in Exodus chapter 7. (Pass out the Take Home Paper and something to write with.) As we talk about each of the plagues, write down the plagues in their correct order. The first plague was water to blood. So, write, “Water to blood” after the 1st plague. The Lord told Moses to put his staff over the waters of Egypt, and all the water in the Nile River, the streams, pools, and even the water in their containers turned to blood. In one instant, poof, there was nothing to drink! The fish all died, it stunk. The people had to dig for fresh water to drink. The 2nd plague was “frogs.” God said if Pharaoh refused to let the Israelites go, He would smite the whole land with frogs. Do you think this was going to be just a few pesky, croaking frogs? No, it says “The Nile will SWARM with frogs, which will come up and go into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and on your people, and into your ovens and into your kneading bowls.” God sent them and the Bible says that the frogs covered the land of Egypt. Pharaoh says “OK, ask your Lord to take the frogs away and I will let the people go.” The Lord does. The frogs all die. The Bible says they piled the dead frogs in heaps, and the land became foul. You have heaps of dead, rotting frogs, and the place is going to stink! The 3rd plague was “gnats.” When Pharaoh saw the frogs were gone, he hardened his heart. The next plague came. The dust of the earth became gnats. Does that sound like a lot of gnats? One buzzing gnat is annoying – buzzing around, flying in your ears, up your nose and getting in your mouth. But imagine swirling gnats all around you, covering you! The magicians told Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh would not listen to them. The 4th plague was “flies.” The Lord told Moses to tell Pharaoh that if he didn’t let the people go, that He was going to send swarms of flies on the people of Egypt, but not on the Israelites. So great swarms of hard biting flies came, and the land was laid waste because of the flies. Pharaoh asked for the flies to be taken away. Moses prays, and not one fly remained. But Pharaoh goes back on his word and does not let the Israelite people go. The 5th plague was “livestock dies.” All the livestock of Egypt died, but not one cow, sheep, camel, or goat of the Israelites died. The 6th plague was “boils.” The Lord told Moses to take handfuls of soot from a kiln – literally ashes from a fireplace – and Moses was to throw the soot in the air in front of Pharaoh. The soot became boils on man and animals throughout all Egypt. These would have been something like oozing blisters. They must have been painful because Pharaoh’s magicians could not stand before Pharaoh because of the boils. But Pharaoh still said, “No.” The 7th plague was “hail.” Pharaoh was told that tomorrow God was going to send heavy hail – the kind that Egypt had never seen. If anyone believed and brought their animals inside, they would be safe. If any animals were left out in the field, they would die. The hail struck every plant in the fields and shattered every tree. However, in the place where the Israelites lived, there was no hail. The 8th plague was “locusts.” The Lord told Moses to go back to Pharaoh and if he refused to let the Israelites go, tomorrow locusts will come. Locusts are very big grasshoppers. There will be so many they will cover the surface of the land, so no one will even be able to see the ground. They will eat everything green that survived the hail. The locusts will fill your houses – it will be like nothing anyone has ever seen before. Pharaoh’s servants pleaded with Pharaoh to let the people go because Egypt was being destroyed. God sent the locusts and the Bible says, “they were very numerous.” The land was darkened because there were so many, and they ate every plant and all the fruit on the trees. Nothing green on any tree or plant was left through all the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh “hurriedly” said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God, forgive my sin and pray to your God.” Moses prayed and the Lord made a wind which blew the locusts into the Red Sea – not one locust was left in all of Egypt. But Pharaoh still said “No,” and would not let the Israelites go.The 9th plague was “darkness.” The Lord told Moses to stretch out his hand toward the sky, and darkness would come. You know when you are in a very bright room, and suddenly all the lights go out, and in those first moments you can’t see anything. It’s that kind of pitch-black darkness which lasted three whole days for the Egyptians. They were totally blind. It was a darkness that was so thick it could be felt. No candle or fire would burn because the Bible says they could not see one another or leave their houses for the three days. It was really, very dark for three whole days. But all the Israelites had light in their houses. Pharaoh still said, “No.” 4572043561000The 10th plague was “first born killed.” The Lord told Moses there would be one more plague. God told the Israelites to put blood on their front doors; “on the two doorposts and on the lintel.” (Exodus 12:7) The lintel of a door is over the top, the two doorposts are the sides. The Israelites were actually putting this Hebrew letter on their front door. When this letter is sounded out it sounds like you are breathing out. It represents God’s breath, and really means, “God breathed.” When the Israelites put blood on their door, they were putting the mark of the breath of God on their door. It was clear to them that they were marking their house for God. Whoever had the blood on their front door, the death angel would pass over. If they didn’t have the mark, the death angel killed the first-born son in every family. Some families could lose two males, if the dad of the family was first born when he was growing up, and then his first-born son. After this plague, Pharaoh let the people go.What is interesting to know is that God did not randomly think of different plagues. The people in Egypt worshipped many different gods, and each of the 10 plagues was against a god of Egypt. Even the Pharaoh himself was considered a god and was worshipped as such. The people depended on the Nile River because Egypt is a dry country. Hapi was the god of the Nile River, and Khnum was the guardian god of the Nile. The Egyptians believed the Nile River was a god because the river gave life and the river sustained life. When the God of heaven turned the water into blood, He was saying, “the gods you think that are guarding and protecting the Nile, are nothing.”The 2nd plague was______? (frogs) Frogs were sacred to the Egyptians and they had a goddess named Heqet, who had the head of a frog and the body of a woman. Frogs were thought to have divine power. So, God made their sacred frogs become horrible in their eyes. Hathor was a goddess with a cow head, and Apis was their bull god. So, the plague against the livestock was against those two gods. Nut was the Egyptian sky goddess, and she obviously couldn’t control the locust. Osiris was the god of the crops, who couldn’t prevent the crop’s destruction. Sekhmet was a lion-headed goddess with power over disease, who couldn’t cure the boils. Osiris was the god of the crops who couldn’t save the crops from the hail. Ra was the sun god, who was worshipped for providing sunlight, and warmth. The plague of darkness was against Ra. The goddess Isis protected children, but the last plague showed she was powerless. At the end of the 10 plagues, the land of Egypt lay in ruins. Every single plague was designed to show the Egyptians that their gods were powerless. To help you remember the order of the 10 plagues, at the bottom of your paper, make up an acrostic. Use the first letter of each plague for a word that fits in a sentence. This will help you remember each plague. Do this in pencil in case you want to change something. I’ll give you a few minutes.(Here are some examples, but only use them if the girls can’t come up with any on their own. The girls will remember it better if they each create their own. Have them share with each other what they came up withAcrostic examples: We found gooey frosting lying beside half licked dried fruit. When frogs get flies, lily pads bounce high literally doing flips.Whoever finds good food laughs because he loathes dead frogs.Wanda figured…Waldo found…)Keeping your sentence in mind, you will now know the order of the plagues that God sent. We are going to move outside. Prepare to be plagued!Games for the Ten Plagues1- Plague of blood4572040576500 Set up two tables (or chairs) about 30 feet away from each other. On one table put two bowls of water. On the other table put two, 2-liter empty soda bottles. Divide the girls into two teams by drawing names out of a hat. Give each team a serving spoon. Girls must dip the serving spoon in the water and walk/run to the other table where they pour the water into the 2-liter bottle. They must carry the spoons over their heads. After everyone has run it twice, switch the bowls of water to two bowls of strawberry ice cream topping syrup. The girls do the same relay but are now racing with red syrup over their heads. They pour the syrup into the same 2-liter bottles as the water – changing the water into “blood.” When you feel enough time has passed, yell, “30 seconds left.” Then end the game. right41910002- Frogs- raw egg toss. Have two eggs available per girl. Dye the eggs green, and with a black permanent marker draw eyes and frog legs on the eggs. For this game put the girls in pairs, and toss the egg back and forth, taking a step backwards each time. When an egg breaks, replace it. When a team breaks two eggs, they are out of the competition.3- Gnats - Count 50 mini chocolate chips and put them in ? cup of whipped cream. Stir the “gnats” around in the whip cream and put the mixture on a paper plate. Girls must put their hands behind their backs and using only their face/mouths find the chocolate chips and spit them out on the table just like you would spit out a gnat if it flew in your mouth. 4- Flies – Use flubber or Play Dough. Give each girl some in a paper cup. Stand in a circle and take little pieces of the flubber, put it by their nose, and then flick it at the other girls. They are flicking flies away.5- Livestock- Provide several containers of shaving cream. The girls use it to put it in their hair and sculpt their hair into the shape of an animal. Either have some mirrors outside, or have the girls look in the windows of the house where they can see their reflections in the glass. Options: rooster, cow or goat with horns, lion, dinosaur with spikes, etc. Afterwards hose the shaving cream out of their hair, thus killing the livestock. (Note: If you are doing this in the hot summer sun, hose down any big patches of shaving cream on the grass, or the shaving cream will bleach areas of the grass.)6- Boils – Use a funnel to put ? c dry oatmeal into sturdy water balloons. Put water in the balloons and tie them shut. Roll the mixture around. By game time, the oatmeal should have absorbed a lot of the water. Divide the girls into pairs and do a balloon toss. Have the girls stand a certain distance apart and toss the balloons to their partner. When one breaks - it looks like boils on the skin. Have the pairs move further apart after each toss.7- Hail - Fill up water balloons beforehand, and throw them at the girls, or have the girls have their own water balloon fight. For the ultimate hail, fill up at least 200 water balloons and take them up on the roof of your house. Have all the girls on the ground in a small marked off area. Have four people up on the roof pelting the water balloons down as fast as possible. The girls on the ground should try to catch them to prevent them from breaking. (Note: This was the favorite game of the day.) 45720210185008- Locusts – Take a one cup measuring unit. Fill it ? full of flour, and pack it down. Put in an unwrapped piece of green bubble gum in the center, and then fill the rest of the measuring cup with flour. Pack the flour. Carefully turn it upside down onto a plate. Have one ready for each girl. Line the plates up on a table outside. Using only their faces, girls are to find the “locust” (the green gum) and blow a bubble with it. Have the garden hose ready to hose everyone down.9- Darkness. Blindfold everyone; have them form a chain by each girl holding onto the girl in front of them. Lead them around for a couple of minutes. 10- Firstborn - Have each girl draw a face on a big round balloon. Then put shaving cream on them in the shape of a beard. Give each girl a disposable razor. They are to shave the balloon. If the balloon pops, it is an Egyptian first born and just died. If it doesn’t pop, it is an Israelite. SnacksPut out “food fight” snacks. Tell the girls they can eat the snacks, or they can have a food fight with them. PuddingWhipped creamMashed potatoesApplesauceCooked spaghetti noodlesJell-OFlourBananasOatmeal, etc.If you are doing the food fight, have the moms clean their refrigerators and pantries of unwanted items. Save the leftover pickle juice, etc. This way the girls are fighting with unwanted items and not simply wasting good food. The food fight can be a surprise that only the moms know about, or you can put it on the invitation. Use any leftover shaving cream for the food fight.Should you not want to do a food fight, an interesting option is to serve Middle Eastern food that would eaten in Egypt today; hummus with crackers and vegetables, couscous, and other dishes with beans, lentils or chickpeas. Have water bottles available for the girls throughout the party. Use water bottles that have a spout on top. Open the bottles before the party and put red food coloring in the water. These bottles can then be used/refilled for the food fight.Misc. NotesHave fun with the games and don’t keep score or declare a winner. This party is a blast; however, to make it run smoothly, all items for the events must be completely ready before the party begins. Water balloons all blown up and in tubs, the “locusts” in the flour, etc. The girls should each bring two towels; one towel to use during the events, and one towel for at the very end when the outside hose cleans them off or to sit on in the car as they ride home. It is ideal to run this party at a house with a cabana bath, so if someone needs to use the restroom while the party is happening, they will dirty very little floor. Also, the girls can change their clothes in the cabana bath before going home.Do the devotion inside at the beginning, and the rest of the party will be outside. An available garden hose is a must. The strawberry syrup used in the first game can stain white T-shirts.Take home favorA can of silly string. Give these to the girls while they are still outside and messy. Let them have a silly string fight.Invitation right1079500Prepared to get slimed! By the ten plagues of Egypt.
