Measurable Performance Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

1. Describe the basic microbiology and chemistry of wastewater.

2. Describe the need for treating wastewater.

3. Explain knowledge of the basic steps a wastewater facility uses to clean wastewater.

4. Define the following stages of the wastewater process:

a. Preliminary Treatment

b. Sedimentation and Flotation

c. Fixed Film Technology

d. Activated Sludge Process

e. Treatment Ponds

f. Disinfection

g. Solids Handling

5. Explain the process of Land Treatment Systems.

6. Be able to operate and maintain On-Site systems.

7. Be able to perform calculations needed for process control and reports.

8. Apply basic principles of wastewater facility safety and maintenance.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies:

Students must obtain a 75% or better average in class on State Examination Practice Tests. If the student meets all objectives, a grade of “Y” is awarded; otherwise a grade of “N” is awarded.
