These segments also include success stories from Maryland students who have made smart choices in selecting their colleges and career paths. Ms. Vazquez is joined in studio by financial aid advisors from area colleges who will take caller questions and help high school students and their parents navigate the complex world of college financial aid. During this fast-paced program, viewers meet students from Maryland college campuses who have found simple and creative ways to pay for school, and will find out how to successfully complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. Financial aid experts will explain how to navigate the labyrinth of government aid and paperwork, from public and private grants to scholarships and loans. MPT will air a half-hour recorded version of Ways to Pay for College on Saturday, November 21 at 11:30 a.m. The program also will be available following the broadcast at college.Through last year MPT produced the how-to special You Can Afford College that, over 30 years, delivered comprehensive, up-to-date information on how students can apply for financial aid. With the program’s title change to Ways to Pay for College, MPT is evolving the program’s content to reflect challenges families are facing with college affordability, changes to the American workplace in terms of technology and other factors, and the student loan crisis, which continues to make headlines while the cost of college keeps rising.Mario Armstrong previously earned an Emmy? award from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his role as co-host of this special.Ways to Pay for College is a co-production of MPT and the Maryland Higher Education Commission, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Additional support comes from the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center. The program is part of the American Graduate station initiative.
