OLIVER GOLDSMITH PRIMARY SCHOOL

“Inspiring a love of learning”

Friday, 10 May 2019

Dear Parents & Carers,

Year 5 pupils are getting ready for our Year Group assembly which is based upon what we have been learning in Religious Education, Islam. For this week’s homework we will be expecting the children to learn their lines and the lyrics by Wednesday, if not before. There are many children who are keen to take on a singing or rapping role so we will be holding auditions to help decide who to pick for these parts.

Safe: children to read their lines in a loud audible voice for the hall with clear articulation.

Stretch: as above but to also make gestures relevant to their lines looking in the direction of the audience.

Super Stretch: as above but to have a high level of confidence maintaining eye-contact with the audience.

Attached with this letter (which we will also put on the website) is a list of the lyrics with links to YouTube to help the children learn the songs, they will not need to learn the solo song or the rap parts (unless they are auditioning for the solo or raps).

For the assembly we will be asking the children to come in their own traditional clothes – no matter what your background or faith.

If you have any issues or concerns please let us know as soon as possible. Our Assembly will take place on the last day of this Half Term, Friday the 24th of May. We invite all of you to please come and enjoy the performance.

Thank you for your continued support.

The Year 5 Team.

Whisper of Peace – for Soloists.

A whisper of peace moving through the land,

Allah will surely run to us if we hold out our hand.

A word of hope, a call to every woman and man,

A light until the end of time, this is al-Islam.

A whisper of peace moving through the land,

Allah will surely run to us but do we understand?

A word of hope, a call to every woman and man,

A light until the end of time, this is al-Islam.

A whisper of peace moving through the land,

Allah will surely run to us if we hold out our hand.

A word of hope, a call to every woman and man,

A light until the end of time,

But is this just a waste of rhyme?

What if we run out of time?

Is this al-Islam?

Deen Squad: Ramadan Lyrics

For all the times I’ve been going astray

For all the prayer that I missed I’m ashamed

I thought I broke my bond with god for my own sake

I knew it’s time I had to change up my ways

And so I figured I would read Quran (holy book)

Couse I didn’t want momma thinking that I took wrong path

Now I’m making tawba (repentance)

‘humdulillah (thanks to god) I’m growing strong

I’ll be fasting, praying to Allah I’m getting closer in this month of rahma (blessing)

Chorus

Come over we’ll feed you ‘cause we love everyone

We’re breaking our fast to the sound of the adhan (call of prayer)

And I’m so excited for this month, with my family having fun

‘cause now I know - it’s time to purify our souls

The blessed month has come

Let’s read Qur’an ‘hamdulillah it’s time for Ramadan

These 30 days we pray let’s feed the poor, ‘hamdulillah it’s time for Ramadan

Rap:

It's the blessed month time to build taqwa (faith)

Shaytaans (devil) locked up, no he can’t stop us,

I want a pure heart, not a full stomach

Now I understand more about the world hunger

Its so real, this how the poor feel,

more love we gonna make each other more meals,

Praying tarawih (special prayers) till we got sore heels

Crying in sujood (prostration), we pray that the lord will

Give us the reward, forgive us for our sins

Make us greater than before

Trying to count the deeds but it’s hard to keep the score

Unify the ummah (community) and purify our souls

Glorify the nights show us all the noor (light)

For laylatul qadr (blessed night)

Satisfy all the heart of all of my brothers

On the come up right now all the muslimeen (someone who has faith)

You can tell the whole world Ramadan kareem

Chorus:

Marhaban ya ramadan (Hello to the month of Ramadan)

Marhaban ya ramadan x 2

Marhaban marhaban ya Ramadan.

Yo – mun jameelun (the day of beauty)

Yo – mun – farhaanun (the day of joy)

Eid – un – sa’eid

All over the world

Under the big-blue sky

Muslims unite to worship Allah

It's a time of brotherhood, a time of peace

Muslims are singing praises to Allah

Allahu Akbar (Allah is great)

Allahu Akbar

La Ilaaha Illa-Allahu (There is only one god)

Allahu Akbar

Allahu Akbar

Allahu Akbar wa Lillahil Hamd (God is the greatest)

Families are gathering

Remembering Allah

And that His Love is the Greatest by far

All Praise for You Allah

All Thanks to You

The joy of Eid comes only from You

This day of peace

Did only You Make for those who believe

Harris J- Asalamualaykum lyrics

You can try and turn off the sun

I'm still going to shine away, yeah!

And tell everyone

We're having some fun today

We can go wherever you want to

And do whatever you like

Let's just have a real good time

Chorus:

Assalam Alaikum, Alaikum yeah! X4

(Peace be upon you)

I just want to spread love and peace

And all of my happiness, yeah

To everyone that I meet

'Cause I'm feeling spectacular

I love it when we love one another

Give thanks everyday

For this life, living with a smile on our face

Chorus

Spread peace on the earth

Cherish the love that is around us

Spread peace on the earth

Treasure the love, let it surround us

Always be kind, always remind one another

Peace on the earth everyday

Chorus

As Salam Alaikum, hey!

As Salam Alaikum, hey!

As Salam Alaikum

Wa Alaikum Assalam

(Peace be upon you and upon you be peace)

Spread peace on the earth

Cherish the love that is around us

Spread peace on the earth everyday

Worth It – Harris J

It's way too late, but I'm still wide-awake

Cause I can't sleep yet, I can't sleep yet

Got a thousand words

That won't stop running circles

Around in my head, around in my head

Sometimes I feel just like these days and nights will never end

But will I ever get this chance again?

Chorus:

So I pray, yes I pray

Cause I know the life I want

When it's hard I keep working

I‘ll never give this up

Because I know it's worth it in the end

I know it's worth, worth, worth

Worth it in the end

Because I know it's worth it in the end

I know it's worth, worth, worth

Worth it in the end

Yeah I know sometimes I should relax my mind

And take it easy, take it easy

If I fight my way through every single page

Then I’m a winner, I’m not a quitter, no!

Sometimes I feel just like these days and nights will never end

But will I ever get this chance again?

Chorus

It's way too late, but I'm still wide-awake

Cause I can't sleep yet, I can't sleep yet

Rap:

My father said to me

Plant one seed and you can grow a tree

That tree will grow in your field of dreams

If you just believe then one day you'll see, yeah!

When I'm on the case I know it's worth it

I'm on the path now I'm running like a circuit

Got my dreams in sight and I'm ready for the fight

Now it's time to put all of the work in, yeah!

One chance, one shot, no I won't give up

All my faith in God that will keep me strong

As I'm sitting here thinking about this world that we're living in

Some wasting all their time

When others aim for the sky

I sacrifice some time for my success

I know it's worth it in the end

Because I know, it's worth, it in the end

I know it's worth, worth, worth

Worth it in the, in the end

Because I know, it's worth, it in the end

I know it's worth, worth, worth

I know it's worth it in the end
