Local Weather Network System (LWNS) – Sign On

Introduction: LWNS enables users to monitor and/or access weather data/products of particular interest. You can obtain current local weather conditions (observed and forecast), for Lawson Army Airfield. It can also be set to immediately alert users when advisories, watches and warnings for the Ft Benning Reservation are issued.

1. Login.

a. After you click on the icon for LWNS. Select the WEATHER hub from the Defined Hubs list, and choose Connect. The N-TFS User Login screen appears in place of the New/Edit Hub screen. NOTE If the hub connection cannot be made, an error message will display, call the weather station 545-1614 system manager (SM), Mr. Bill Malcomb.

c. Press the keyboard Tab key to position the cursor at Password and enter your password. Select OK, or on keyboard, press Enter. Login name and password are CASE SENSITIVE. Password must be 8 characters, with one special character and one number. Password should be changed (after you initially log on) for each different system the LWNS program is loaded onto. The user name (USER#), will never change on a system once it is initially used to sign onto that specific CPU.

d. The LWNS Position Selection dialog disappears and the LWNS/LOC main display comes to the foreground. Typically, the LWNS Position Selection dialog appears, overlying the LWNS/LOC main display. The LWNS positions listed in the dialog are those positions configured by the System Manager. The LO # should match your User Login Name #. If no LWNS positions have been configured by the System Manager, the dialog does not appear and no position information is subsequently made available to you.

LOCATION IDENTIFIER (LOCID).

1. Introduction: KLSF is the LOCID for Lawson Army Airfield. Attachment 3 (local area maps), show the LOCID identifier with a circle - data central point. Observation points cover the entire US, however these maps are to show what is available throughout the Georgia, Alabama, and Florida region.

2. LWNS set up. LWNS can be programmed to accept only 1 site, or up to 20 locations (keep this mind for item 3 - alerts). As will see from the maps of just our region, weather sites are located throughout the entire U.S. It is the choice of the user which sites to monitor and have loaded.

3. Notification Alerts. LWNS can be set up to receive audible alerts (as long as your computer has speakers). However, it is important to note, as data is received for each location (1 thru 20 as determined by the user) an alert will be sounded. To receive alerts for Ft Benning weather observations and forecasts, but to include Advisories, Watches and Warnings - LWNS should have the KLSF LOCID loaded only.
