ReflectionTaLisha Danielle CrowderRowan- Cabarrus Community College AbstractWhile enrolled in English 111-01, I created a portfolio called Weebly. The Weebly houses the work that I have mastered and my goals throughout the semester. The following five goals: writing process, locate and utilizing information, rhetorical situations, formatting and documentation, came from the English 111 syllabus. A syllabus is an outline of a subject in an educated course. I am able to demonstrate what each individual goal mean by the end of the semester.Back To the Future Introduction I have been a student at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for four semesters while being a high school student at Early College. Throughout the course of the semester. I have met various goals in the past nine weeks of our English 111 class due to the various writing projects. Weebly is a free web page where I constructed my evidence of meeting the course goals. The Weebly process helped me reach the five goals due to I could access it whenever I wanted. Every time I learned something new, I would put it on Weebly, so when I go back, the connection I had at the time would be refreshed. Goal One: The Writing ProcessThe writing process consist of four distinct steps: pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing. Pre-writing is the time to plan out your essay. This may include brainstorming, research, online information and etc. Your audience and purpose along with your thesis statement should be considered at this point. Drafting is where all your ideas from your research, brainstorming and online information is organized into a paper. Revising is where the student review one paper. This may involve deleting and adding words or ideas. The goal is to improve the draft. Editing is where the writer proofread and correct errors in grammar to make it more clear. These are the four steps that will lead to a successful paper. This connects to Weebly, we brainstormed and wrote Narratives starting with the first making a brainstorm and then prewriting. We made a rough draft and it was peer edited. Outside of class I believe that this goal will help me get better with papers in the future, even if it’s just writing letters to coworkers and have my ideas more organized.Goal Two: Locating and Utilizing InformationThe goal to locating and utilizing information is learning how to find where information are at, and learning how to put it to use. The Scavenger Hunt was an exercise used to basically teach us how to use the library's websites, as well as its resources for all different sorts of things. Things like locating books within NC live, finding ways to do research papers, use references, etc. I locate the information by first searching what ever topic I am looking for. The college text book simplifies the information needed to write well on your own without using plagiarism. The use of the TABLE OF CONTENTS is available to help you locate and find necessary information on specific topics. As you read and study the information that is found through out this book, you will eventually be able to utilize your new findings throughout your life. Another example is the tutoring center. The tutoring center help you to receive help from different teachers so that you can obtain an understanding in whatever class you may be having problems with. It also help you to learn how to locate materials within your subject.Goal Three: Rhetorical SituationsThere are three main points: regarding Rhetorical situations: the sender, message, and the receiver. The sender is who created the image, or wrote the paper. The sender may be unknown or in a group. The message is what the sender is trying to get across, the main purpose- to persuade, inform or entertain. The receiver is whom the image or paper is for. Peer editing is within this goal, it’s when you reread over a peers papers and do some corrections that they misseen Goal Four: Formatting and DocumentationThis goal helps you to avoid plagiarizing anyone elses work by not only mention the source you borrowed from but also document them completely and accurately. Documentation is a type of road map that shows your instructor where and what you have done to develop your thesis statement and research. This connects back to the Weebly when we had a discussion about what was plagiarism, MLA format along with APA formatting. Plagiarism is when you take someone else paper, picture, ideas, song, etc. and pass them off as your own. Its a form of cheating and has serous consequences behind it. After we turned in our final copy of our essay, its being checked to see rather or not we plagiarized someone else work. That s when we talked about citing your work. MLA is a form of writing and citing that I learned through out the course. On Weebly I Wrote a paper in MLA format along with citing the source to avoid plagerism.ConclusionBy successfully completing the Weebly page for my portfolio, it has helped me to become a little bit stronger in certain areas. I strongly believe that my weakness throughout the course was learning how to conclude everything that I have talked about in a paragraph when transitioning to another paragraph. I also had a hard time trying to write a conclusion without saying the same things I mentioned in previous paragraph. Another weakness within the goals I had a problem with, was responding to rhetorical situations. I really didn’t what to give any negative feedback when it came to peer editing papers. But I realized that it’s the negative response that really helps your peer to perfect his or her paper. My strengths within the weebly were the formatting, citing, and documentation due to when I was in the ninth grade I took the course ACA, and we learned how to format our paper in MLA and APA. Ever since then, I haven’t had any problems whatsoever with formatting. Overall I have enjoyed working in Weebly by learning the steps in creating my own web page.ReferencesCrowder, N.
