Professional Development and MISC. 2013-2016

Charleston, WV

• 3 hour classroom management class through the West Virginia Department of Education.

➢ During this class I learned about different strategies to enhance my classroom management skills. I learned about different techniques and behavior ideas to incorporate into my classroom.

• 3 hour technology class, using google apps in the classroom through the West Virginia Department of Education.

➢ I had so much fun taking this course! I learned about all different kinds of google apps to use in the classroom such as GMAIL, Google, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and how they can all connect together. It has made me much more organized with communicating and storing information!

• Beginner Teacher Academy 2013-2015

➢ During the two-year Beginner Teacher Academy, I was assigned a mentor. She came and observed me teach and wrote evaluations. We went to monthly meetings with all the other beginner teachers and their mentors and was involved with seminars learning different teaching skills. I feel like this program helped shaped the teacher I’m becoming.

• Professional development trainings on using Smarty Ants, ST Math, and Schoology.

➢ During these professional development trainings, I learned how to use Smarty Ants which is a reading application for the students. It is all online and they teach basic second grade skills such as blending sounds, reading sentences, listening to themselves read, and teaches all the standards for second grade.

➢ For the ST Math training, I learned how to keep track of student progress, help when they are struggling, and how to navigate the teacher account. This program is so neat because it meets all the math standards and it gives no instructions for the students. They have to figure out the puzzles and problems by trial and error. This taps into a whole new level of thinking!

➢ I learned how to navigate Schoology and incorporate it into my teaching for parent-teacher communication, how students can post things in their own account, and how to upload classroom assignments.
