Laws like people are all very different and can sometimes be amusing. Although it's fun to think that some state legislator pushed a lawbanning donkeys from bathtubs, most"weird laws" you find online are complete fantasy. But there is certainly an odd collection of state statutes (laws) still on the books.

First up is Alaska. Clearly Alaska used to throw some wild parties in the woods, because the state now has a law on the books that bans residents from giving a moose a beer. Giving a mouse a cookie however remains fair game.

In Arkansas, mispronouncing the state name is strictly forbidden, so just leave your grandma and her fancy 'Ar-can-zuss'es at home next time.

In Connecticut, for a pickle to legally be called a pickle, it must bounce, proving Connecticut residents are also devotees of the five-second rule.

In Georgia, using profanity toward a person under 14 in person or over the phone telephone, is considered disorderly conduct.

Idaho is clearly preparing for the zombie apocalypse. Under a chapter of laws entitled "Mayhem," Idaho law explains why eating other people is not allowed. Cannibalism in Idaho will get you up to 14 years in prison... except in extreme cases where you had to eat your friend to survive. And if that's the case, you've already been punished enough.

In Massachusetts, they take golf seriously. Although it would make the Golf Channel 100 times more exciting, exploding golf balls are not allowed in Massachusetts. First-

time violators get a fine of up to $500, but don't make this a career, because repeat offenders can earn jail time.

Before you visit Mississippi you'd better bring a belt. They have a proposed state statute (law) that bans sagging pants. The penalty for a first offense of the noncriminal citation is a warning, and for juveniles notifying their parents or guardians. After that, fines begin at $20 for a second offense and run up to $100 for a sixth offense. Montana must have a shortage of meat...Just two years ago, the state passed a law which allows you to salvage roadkill for meat. Street squirrel: it's what's for dinner.

North Carolina is tough on crime. Stealing used kitchen grease is a crime in North Carolina, so you'll need to look elsewhere for product to put in your hair.

Finally in Wyoming, taking or harming a fish with a gun is against the law, so you'll just have to stick with a fishing pole. Think About It:

1. Why do you think any of these laws were originally

passed?

2. Which law do you think is the most ridiculous?

3. What type of punishment do you people who

break

these laws should face?

5. Explain whether you think the Mississippi law about sagging pants breaks your right to freedom of expression. 4. What type of law would you pass to actually improve our

country if you were a member of the legislative branch? 5. How does this article connect to civics?
