Motion carried.4. Updates and DiscussionA. Program Presentations 1. Crisis Nursery – Melissa Gardner – See Handout. There was discussion about the need for more child care providers. If anyone would like more information on becoming a provider, they can contact Melissa. There was discussion of the history of funding from Carver County, which lapsed years ago and has yet to be reestablished. Board members with ties to Carver County expressed interest in seeing this relationship reestablished. Joe shared that one of our community business partners is planning to have a “baby shower” for Crisis Nursery families. 2. Child Care Aware – Marie Johnson – See Handout B. CAP Ambassador Update – Sanya PiraniJoe introduced Sanya and her diaper drive project. She has just launched her own nonprofit, “Sanya’s Hope for Children.” See presentation and handouts. Sanya presented CAP with a check from the diaper drive final event. Joe told the Board about the work that Sanya has done over the past two years and congratulated Sanya and her team for the work on this drive. C. Head Start – Laura GilkeyThe school year is winding down and we are beginning to enroll for next year. Head Start received a grant from the Prior Lake Lions Club to buy an OAE emissions screener. This can be used for infants through preschool to screen for hearing challenges. Chris offered her congratulations and is thrilled that this resource will be available to children who may not be screened between birth and kindergarten. Gino asked about the Head Start items approved in the consent agenda. There was discussion of a need for greater training on some of these items beyond the Board’s approval.D. Technology Committee – Gino Businaro4A14A2 4D1 4D2President/CEO Report - Joe Vaughan Christie handed out information on the new Helping Hands employee program. In this program, employees are encouraged to volunteer in other departments throughout CAP. Each employee will be allowed to be paid for four hours of volunteer hours outside of their own department. This not only helps our programs but also helps our staff to learn more about what our agency does as a whole.Jackie shared that we were awarded a grant through Second Harvest Heartland that will allow CAP to do six fresh food distributions throughout the summer. We also received a grant from Hunger Impact that will directly serve WIC families and encourage them to stick with the program after children turn one. Joe commented that both grants serve our community needs and align with our strategic plan.CAP recently received a large donation from Ryan Construction company of office furniture and supplies. These items were picked up last Friday. This will mean significant upgrades to our offices. This donation has a total value of approximately $20,000.Union Pacific Foundation will continue its support of CAP Agency this year. Joe will be meeting with them next week to receive their donation.Joe thanked Gary on behalf of CAP, the Board, and himself for his service. He applauded the work that Gary has done over the years. Gary thanked the Board for all they do and for making his experience here a wonderful one. Mary thanked Gary for helping to guide CAP through some very turbulent times. Gayle seconded the impact of Gary’s leadership and wished him the best of luck.Board Chair Report – Nate BostromNate commented on the efforts of Christie and Tamra in going to job fairs and thanked them for their work. He stressed the importance of these kinds of efforts in finding the employees CAP needs to continue to be successful. There is also a pilot internship program that is being explored at Inver Hill Community College in Inver Grove Heights that might include CAP Agency in the future. Jennifer informed the Board that CAP had recently been awarded a Hermes Gold Award for the 2015 PCC video. More information will be sent to the Board members.G. Other Business H.
