The Delta County Great Start Parent Coalition meets monthly from 6-7:30pm

Our next meetings: December 6th (Holiday Party) & January 17th at the Delta-Schoolcraft ISD, Escanaba

Our VISION is a community where all children come first by empowering parents with knowledge and skills. Our MISSION is to create a team of parents, working together, to provide families with information, a supportive network, and the chance to make a positive difference in Delta County.

December Community Family Events

12/1/18 Happy Tails Story Time & Open House 10am-4pm Help clear the shelter for the holidays! Adoption specials all day, 10:30am storytime for kids ages 3-5 years old, Noon-4pm, picture of your pet with Santa, low cost micro chipping and nail trimming. No reservation needed.

12/6, 12/13, 12/20/2018 Toddler Art and Music at the Bonifas Thursdays, 9:30am-10:15am Ages: mobile to 3yrs and their caregivers led by professional teacher/musician, Lorne Watson. Combines fun and learning to nurture imagination, problem solving and motor skills. $5 per session. Walk -ins welcome.

12/1/18 Family Games at the Escanaba Library 1pm-3pm. Screen-free family fun the 1st Saturday each month. Board games available or bring your own! All ages are welcome. No sign up required.

12/6/18 & 1/3/19 $1 Bowling Night 4pm-9pm at Bowl-a-Rama. Affordable bowling for families $1 per game, shoe rentals, pizza slices and pop. The 1st Thursday of each month. Visit Bowl-a-Rama on Facebook for more details.

12/1/18 Family Flick & Fun Night for families of children ages 6-12 years at the YMCA. 3pm-5:30pm or 6:30-9pm free for member/$5 for nonmembers includes swimming, family fun and a movie. Must register

12/2/18 Bay de Noc Choral Society Christmas Concert 1:30 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church 202 S 11th, Escanaba. Christmas and advent music. Donations accepted.

12/3 & 12/10/18 Homeschoolers Art Class 10am-11am Mondays at the Bonifas An engaging weekly class with Art Center Art Curriculum for homeschoolers ages K-8. $45 for the series runs weekly through December 10th.

12/4/18 Bay College Early Childhood Education Program: Exceptionalities in Early Childhood Parent Panel 6-7:30pm, Room 525 off the Caf? Bay. Four local families will be sharing their journey in parenting a young child with special developmental, behavioral and/or learning needs. Service providers from around the area will be on hand to share about the support they offer to young children and families in the area. Parent, student and service provider networking is encouraged and refreshments will be served. More information can be obtained by calling Tammra at 906-217-4158.

12/7/18 YMCA Nerf & Turf Night (3rd-6th graders) at the HIT Room, Hannahville Ice & Turf Room, 1647 17.4 Road, Escanaba (inside Wells Sports Complex). The Y provides the space, obstacles, supervision and fun. Kids bring their own NERF gear: guns, bullets (must be Styrofoam with rubber ends), vests and goggles. (3rd-4th grade play 67:30pm/5th & 6th graders play 7:30-9pm. $5 Members $8 General Public

12/4/18 The Songs and Wisdom of Mr. Rogers 6:30pm at the Escanaba Library. A fun way to look back at one of the most influential television personalities who taught many of life's most valuable lessons. Free event. No registration.

12/4/18 The Santa Clause 7pm-9pm Free holiday movie event at Bay College's Besse Theatre brought to you by the Campus Activity Board. No registration required. baycollege.edu

12/6/18 Holly Jolly Vendor & Craft Extravaganza 5:30pm to 8:30pm at Hereford & Hops. Benefit for Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign. Admission to Event: 1 New Unwrapped Toy. Purchase Your $6 ticket at the Door for pizza buffet and a chance to win door prizes! announced at 8 PM. Cash Bar will be Available.

12/7 -12/9/18 TV 6 Christmas Craft Show 12/7 5pm-9pm, 12/8 10am-6pm, 12/9 11am ? 4pm at the NMU Superior Dome in Marquette. Over 300 vendors. $2 adults, kids 12 and under free.

12/7 & 12/8/18 Christmas in the Village, UP Fairgrounds. Free admission. Requesting canned good donations. Friday noon-7pm, Saturday 10am7pm. Demonstrations, carriage rides, concessions and activities.

12/7/18 Escanaba Christmas Parade Line up at 6pm. Parade starts at 7pm on Ludington Ave. (906 Theme).

12/8/18 Annual Christmas Cookie Sale 10:00 am until cookies are gone 1st Presbyterian Church 819 1st Ave South Escanaba . $8 a pound for homemade, fancy, and old fashioned decorated cookies.

12/8/18 Gingerbread Workshop 10am-11:30am at the Bonifas Arts Center. Space is limited. $12 per participant. Call to register 906-786-3833

12/8/18 Lego Club 10:30am-12pm at the Escanaba Library. (Cartoons) for children ages 5 and up with caregiver. Have your child bring gallon sized zip lock bag of Legos and create together. There is a drawing for 2 Lego sets at the end of each Lego Club session. No registration required.

12/8/18 Gladstone Library Holiday Story Hour 10:30am Story and activities. Free. No registration.

12/8/18 A Visit with Santa 1pm-4pm at the Brampton Township Volunteer Fire Department 5880 27.15 Ln, Gladstone. Santa Claus has announced he will be stopping by to visit with kids.

12/8/18 Parents Night Out at Gladstone High School 3pm to 9pm for children potty-trained and older. $20 per child. Chaperones/ babysitters will include adults and high school students from the Spanish Club raising funds to travel to Spain. Fun, games, and pizza includes: kickball, basketball, and yard games in the gym. Arts, crafts, board games, and Wii Just Dance in the cafeteria and children's movies in the auditorium. 12/11/18 SAIL Adaptive Recreation in Escanaba 5:30pm-6:30pm FREE People of all abilities and ages are welcome! Registration required by contacting Mo at 906- 228-5744 and for location information.

12/11/18 Grand-Families Support Group 5:30pm-7:30pm 1905 South 21st St. A group for grandparents raising grandchildren. Meets 2nd Tuesday of the month. Meal included. Call 786-7080 ext 167 to RSVP.

12/11 & 12/13/18 1st Aid and CRP Training 6pm-9pm at YMCA. Red Cross course consists of 6 hours of basic CPR training for adult and pediatric First Aid & AED training. Learn how to help in emergency situations. Ages 14 & up. All classes are mandatory. $125 Members $200 general public.

12/11/18 MSO Brass Quintet 7:30pm-9:30pm at Bay's Besse Theater. A celebration of holiday music from the Renaissance through the 21st century featuring members of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra brass section. $10 per person. baycollege.edu

12/13, 12/17 & 12/27/18 MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meets 10am11:30am, Thurs 12/13 & 12/27 and Mon 12/17 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at New Life Church in Escanaba. Childcare available. Find them on Facebook (Delta County MOPS) for the most up to date information and events.

12/14/18 YMCA Parents Night Out 5:30pm-8pm. Bring your kids ages 5 -12 years to the YMCA for games, swimming, pizza and fun while you enjoy a night out. $8 members/$10 gen public. Register at

12/14/18 Wellspring Church Parents Night Out 6pm-8:30pm at Wellspring Church in the Delta Plaza Mall. Free Babysitting for an adult night out or catch up on shopping. Community event (you do NOT have to attend Wellspring to participate) Text 906-241-6061 to sign your kids up.

12/15/18 Sibshop Kick-off Family Party 10am-12pm Sibshops are recreational workshops and support for children ages 7-13years old that have a brother or sister with special needs. 12/15/18 Escanaba Public Library Story Hour The 3rd Saturday of the month Oct-May,1:30pm in the Children's Library. FREE for children 4 years and older. No registration is required. Includes stories, crafts, and occasionally a book-related movie or special guest. Toddler Time meets Wednesdays at 10:30am. Lapsit for babies meets Fridays 10:30am. Registration required for these times.

12/15/18 Selfies with Santa 9am to noon at the Delta County Credit Union Escanaba office 2600 1st Ave South. Enjoy a free hot chocolate and take some sefiies with Santa Claus! Tots for Tots drop off location participants encouraged, but not required to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate.

12/15/18 Annual Cookie Walk First Methodist Church 302 S 6th St Escanaba 930am till cookie are gone cookies, candies , bread and homemade crafts available. Free coffee and cookie samples!

12/15/18 Winter Festival Craft & Vendor Show 11am-6pm at the Delta Plaza mall.

12/15/18 Polar Express 6:30-8:30pm at the Bonifas Art Center. A FREE family fun event with crafts, cookie decorating, storytelling and hot chocolate! Space is limited. Must pre-register by calling 786-3833.

12/16/18 Rock Lion's Club Brunch 9am-1pm at Rock Lion's Club Everything to do with breakfast - eggs, omelets, fruit, desserts and more! $8 adults, $5 ages 6-12, 5 and under free

12/16/18 Christmas Concert with the Remnants 7-10pm at St Joseph & St Patrick Parish 709 1st Ave S, Escanaba. Annual Christmas concert featuring 6 area choirs + The Remnants Barbershop Chorus. Free, but donations will be accepted.

12/21/18 YMCA K-3 Sock Hop 5:30pm to 8pm for grades K through 3. While the D.J. spins the music, kids will bop, jump and jam. Dancing, Contests, Food & Fun on a cold winter night! $5 members/$8 general public.

12/31/18 Civic Center NYE Party Free for grades 4-12 from 4pm-8pm. Dancing & refreshments

12/31/18 Bowl-a-Rama Family New Years Eve Party Cyber Bowl ing for 3 set times. 2pm, 5pm and 8pm. $10 per person for 2 games of bowling each, shoes, a slice of pizza and a small soda. Call to reserve your spots! 786-6500

12/31/18 New Year's Eve Celebration in Escanaba Finish 2018 with a bang! 9pm Fireworks at the Municipal Dock.

12/31/18 New Year's Eve Ball Drop Bash 11:45 PM Intersection of Washington St and Front St in Downtown Marquette. Locals and visitors to the area come together to welcome in the New Year. On the 12th strike an illuminated ball is lowered from the historic Savings Bank Building. This year will mark the 27th anniversary of the Downtown Marquette New Year's Eve Ball Drop. -drop

Public Ice Skating Rinks open 5pm-8pm Monday-Friday, Saturdays 1pm-8pm, Sundays 1pm-5pm Royce (700 Block of S 19th St) and Webster (1300 block of N 19th St)

Wells Sports Complex Open Skate $5.00/person. Skate Rentals and Skate Sharpening available at the Pro-Shop for $5.00. Stabilizers available for new skaters. Concession stand open. For full rink and turf schedules visit the Escanaba Area Junior Hockey Website at The FREE turf area walking track open 3-10 pm Monday to Friday. Times vary on weekends.

Cross County Ski Trail The cross country ski trail off of North 30th Street is has two ski trail heads at North 30th Street and the east side of the Comfort Suites on Ludington Street

Sibshops is a free program for kids 7 to 13 year olds who have a brother or sister with any kind of special needs.

Sibshops are full of fun activities that will keep kids engaged. They celebrate the important role siblings play with peers who can relate.

Providing opportunities for fun & friendship in a supportive kid friendly format.

Sibshops will be held monthly on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm at Webster Elementary in Escanaba with a kick-off family event on Saturday 12/8/18 11am-1pm at the Delta-Schoolcraft ISD.
