FROM FR. DAN’S DESK…

Congratulations to our Parishioner and Valedictorian of the Class of 2015 at Westfield High School – Caleigh Rockwal. We are proud of Caleigh who has been involved at the parish for many years, most particularly as a Youth Leader in our Vacation Bible Camp during the Summer. Congratulations, Caleigh! We also congratulate and thank Melanie Fredette who also graduated and assisted with our Vacation Bible Camp. We congratulate all our young men and women who graduated, and I thank those who have given service to our parish over the years! God Bless you!

I just wanted those who were not able to make it to the Talent Show last Saturday sponsored by the Schoenstatt Marian Girls Youth Group, to know that it was a great success! I must admit in the beginning I wasn’t sure that it was going to “happen”, but I am happy to say it went better than I could have possibly imagined. We have some very talented young people in our parish! Thanks goes out to the Schoenstatt Marian Community and Diane Czerwicki for coordinating the show made up of tap dance, singing, comedy, and the wonderful music of our Contemporary Music Group – “Pslam 33”! Thanks also to Masters of Ceremonies – Kristen and Paige Stawasz.

Speaking of the Schoenstatt Community, as you saw in last weekend’s bulletin, they are doing something very special at their Movement House on Sandy Hill Road so that the Schoenstatt Altar, which was erected in our church during the Schoenstatt Jubilee Year last year, will be able to be erected again in a place of honor. The Movement House has low ceilings, and consequently the Altar has never been able to be fully erected as it was here in the church. With the renovation of the garage at the Movement House, the Altar will be fully erected and it will be a place of honor where visitors can pray before the Altar. The name of this place of honor is to be called “A Place of Grace”. I know we have a lot of builders in the parish and I hope that some of you can lend your time and experience in helping the Schoenstatt Community to complete this renovation. God bless you all!

As things wind down in the parish for the Summer months, we always look forward to our Vacation Bible Camp which will take place August 3 to 7. This year’s theme is “Everest” and it is our 9th year of offering a Vacation Bible Camp in our parish, and I am proud of how successful they have all been over the years! Thanks to Sheila Conroy assisted by Mary Regan (and the whole Monti Family I hope!). They will be seeking volunteers in the weeks to come to help paint sets and donate items used at the Camp each year. In this weekend’s bulletin you will find an insert with information on the Bible Camp as well as a Bible Camp Registration Form. Please fill it out and register your child early so that we can plan accordingly!

Next weekend the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi will be here at all the Masses to sell their August Calendar Raffle Tickets. The Tickets are $10.00 each and you have 31 chances to win between $25 and $100 each day of the month of August. You all were very good last year in supporting the sisters and I know many of you were winners! This is a major fundraiser for the sisters in our area to support their work and ministry – they thank you in advance and wish you luck! Also, the Felician Sisters who had to cancel their annual Bake Sale that was scheduled for last weekend, called and re-scheduled the Bake Sale for the Weekend of August 29/30. Local blueberries and apples will be in season for their delicious pies – so hold on – it will be worth it!

Just a reminder - this Sunday (June 14) is the 13th Annual Eucharistic Rosary Procession in Northampton at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at 2:00Pm. What a wonderful way to witness to our Catholic Faith!

Finally, I want to announce a great opportunity coming in October, but will be here before we know it! As many of you know, our Parishioner and Westfield High Grad last year – Josh Burrage - is appearing in the Travelling Broadway Show “Newsies”. We are proud of Josh and this great opportunity for him! The show has been touring the country, but it will be coming as close as the Bushnell in Hartford this October. I would like to put a Bus Trip together from the parish to see the show. I do not have firm numbers yet, but between tickets and the bus the total should be under $99 each. We would plan for a Matinee at 2:00 on Saturday October 17, and then stop on the way home for supper (on our own). I have put out a clipboard with a sign-up sheet for those who might be interested. This is not a commitment, but will give me a chance to know how many might want to go. Please look for the clipboard in the Gathering Space after Masses this weekend!

God Bless, Fr. Dan

JUNE/JULY POOR BOX:

ANGELS TAKE FLIGHT

Angels Take Flight provides children with essential items to help restore a sense of hope and confidence that can be lost due to the trauma caused when major transitions occur. Instead of departing place to place with their belongings in a garbage bag, Angels Take Flight gives these children a piece of luggage which they can keep for their move. We strive to make any transition easier for the children of our community through a multitude of ways. Our goal is to give children their wings.

In addition to luggage, other transitional items are given to the children who have to move from place to place including foster care placements, hospital settings, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, or other safe homes. Angels Take Flight also assists children during the holiday season by holding toy drives which directly benefit the children of our community. Our team hand delivers toys during the holiday season, including on Christmas Morning.

Our goal is to help restore dignity, pride and positive self-esteem in children. For more information please see our website, . Volunteer opportunities are also available.

2015 MASS BOOK

The 2016 Parish Mass Book is now open for scheduling Masses. Sue in our Office will be happy to help you schedule a Mass for a loved one for a birthday, marriage anniversary, or death anniversary remembrance at weekend or daily Masses. General Intentions for the recovery from illness, or a “special intention” can also be scheduled. Offering is $10.00.

Due to the many requests for Masses on the weekends, Mass intentions for the same individual(s) will be limited to 8 Sunday Masses in the year, no more than 4 at the same Mass time. Thank you for your understanding!

Also, you may book the Sanctuary Candle for 2016 which burns for 2 weeks ($20) or the Special Intention Candle for 2015 and 2016 which burns for 1 week ($10) near the Crucifix and Prayer Book of Intentions. In addition, there is also a special Outdoor Mary Garden Candle for 2015 and 2016 which can be scheduled for a special intention or “in memory of” a loved one for 1 week ($10). And we now have a new VETERANS MEMORIAL GARDEN CANDLE which can be scheduled for a loved one (living or deceased) both in 2015 and 2016 for 1 week ($10).

FDR’S FLAG DAY PRAYER

June 14, 1942

The Spirit of man has awakened

The Soul of man has gone forth

Grant us the wisdom and the vision

to comprehend the greatness of man's Spirit

that suffers and endures so hugely for a goal

beyond his own brief span

We are all of us children of Earth

Grant us that simple knowledge

If our brothers are oppressed,

then we are oppressed

If they hunger, we hunger

If their freedom is taken away,

our freedom is not secure

Grant us a common faith,

that man shall know bread and peace

That he shall know justice and righteousness,

Freedom and security, an equal opportunity,

and an equal chance to do his best,

not only in our own lands, but throughout the world.

And in that faith, let us march,

march toward the clean world,

our hands can make.

Amen.
