Crime Buster Party Fun

It was a beautiful Saturday morning for the first Westcreek Crime Buster Party, held April 1 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. That factor may have lessened the attendance at our first ever Spring crime party, as it was relatively poor. However, those who showed up enjoyed themselves. Drinks and snacks were served to all.

Officer Cindy Seago, the APD District Representative for Westcreek, pulled out all the stops to make this gathering a memorable one. Not only were our police men and women out in force, Officer Seago also arranged for the APD Mounted

Unit and the Austin Fire Department to be there. She also had VIN etching set up for attendees. Officer Seago reminded everyone that VIN etching is a huge auto theft deterrent. At the end of the party, a total of 16 vehicles were etched. There were also Child Identity Protection kits available for everyone at the event.

The beautiful horses from the APD Mounted Unit were a big draw for the kids and adults alike. And the fire truck from Quint 27 and the crew of firefighters were amazing. The truck itself was huge, with a telescoping ladder that went stories and stories high. The firemen had plenty of good tips to prevent fires and accidents and wonderful stories as well. Adults and children were invited to sit inside the fire truck to see how it felt (if only for a moment) to be a fire fighter, as the crew demonstrated their communications and equipment to all.

It was an enlightening event, and we hope to hold another Crime Buster Party next spring. One father who brought his children was overheard saying, "What a great way to spend a Saturday morning. My kids and I are having a wonderful time!" We hope this sentiment will help you be inspired to attend our next event!

The Western Oaks Update

Progress being made on retail and office area at southwest corner of Wm. Cannon and Brush Country

While major attention has been on the shopping center anchored by Costco, just south of Westcreek, workers are moving toward completion of a smaller business center across the street.

The Western Oaks at the southwest corner of William Cannon and Brush Country will be the home of 24-Hour Fitness. That facility is scheduled to open as quickly as construction can be completed.

In addition, The Western Oaks will house a bank, a sit-down, family-style restaurant, a fast-food restaurant and an office building, according to a spokesman for The Weizman Group, leasing agent for the development.

The 24-Hour Fitness lease is the only signed agreement, but negotiations are underway for the other locations on the property, the spokesman said.

Spring Quarterly Meeting - (Continued from pg. 3)

the City Election where early voting begins May 1st. We also said goodbye to a very important and influential resident of Westcreek: Kim Sherman. She and her husband, Todd and their daughter, Kaitlyn, are moving from Westcreek. Kim was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the WNA for all her hard work as President and other volunteer services over the past five years.

Westcreek residents were also updated on the status of the Asian Gypsy Moth in our area plus the construction at The Shops at Arbor Trails (Costco is scheduled to open June 1st).

Joyce Cooper, master gardener, gave an excellent presentation on how to landscape using a minimal amount of water Ms. Cooper gave wonderful tips on and on rain-harvesting. landscaping with minimal watering Joyce gave us a list of needed

plants that can take the sun, part shade, or part shade. If anyone is interested in this list, the WNA will be happy to furnish the list to you.

Our new Austin Police Department Representative, Officer Cindy Seago, presented a most informative update on crime in SW Austin. Cindy has been a Police Officer in our area for over 12 years and is very familiar with problems in our area. She discussed several areas of concern, including the Williamson Creek graffiti problem, which the Police Department is watching very closely. Cindy reminded us that localized crime information is available to the public by logging on to: ci.austin.tx.us/police/. The Westcreek neighbors met with

their new DR from APD, Officer, Cindy Seago, who wowed the crowd with humor and facts to prevent crime
