ASST. MANAGER ? TRANSPORTATION

RESPONSIBLE TO:

DIRECTOR OF PURCHASING & LOGISTICS

DIRECT REPORTS:

Van Drivers (20), Sub Van Drivers (3), Bus Drivers (16), Secretary/Dispatcher (1)

SALARY:

$48,000 and up, based on experience

QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of logistics/distribution experience in the area of transportation. Two years of management experience. Ability to obtain Van Driver Certification Knowledge of State Department of Education regulations as they apply to pupil transportation (preferred). Knowledge of transportation software (preferred). Familiarity with Westerville City School District (preferred). Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel. Advanced skills in bookkeeping and accounting. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent telephone communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proven competence in English composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are representative, but not limited to those performed by the Asst. Manager of Transportation.

Routing Programs: Develop and maintain routing needs (ex. Spec Ed, intra-district programs, etc.) Maintain and update/upgrade various software programs according to operational needs. Develop, execute, and maintain van driver and employee schedules. Prepare and maintain van driver route sheets. Perform check rides to evaluate routing efficiencies. Dispatch resources as needed to resolve customer requests. Manage daily routing assignments and appropriate staff coverage. Administer and support the district's transportation services for any field trips and special programming.

Payroll: Manage and verify payroll timesheets, prepare payroll deviation for MyVan drivers. Prepare board agendas for all payroll route modifications needed.

Reporting: Identify, gather, and analyze data for State Reports (ex. T-Counts, Accident Reporting, Finance, T-1S Reports, etc.) Prepare reports on behalf of district for Superintendent submission. Respond to vehicle accidents and report required information to district's insurance company, law enforcement, and state agencies as required. Assist Department Director in providing data and information to District Leadership. Including but not limited to reports, presentations, and participation in meetings.

Data Management: Collect, analyze, and use available data to gain efficiencies in departmental operations (ex. GPS Delivery and Arrival Schedules, Time Keeping/Payroll)

Technology: Evaluate technological resources and devices to enhance the student experience. Coordinate and obtain approval from Pupil Services on related content for issued devices. Support the integration between current routing software & PowerSchool and any other

student information system. Special Education Programming:

Work with Pupil Services Team as Liaison to identify, schedule, and execute transportation services for students with special transportation requirements.

Attend IEP meetings when necessary. Develop routes to provide services for students who require specialized transportation. Serve as liaison between Westerville City Schools and outside vendors for providing

specialized services above and beyond school bus transportation. Serve as liaison between Westerville City Schools and other districts and state agencies

to arrange transportation services for homeless and displaced students. Arrange home visits "Meet and Greet" with parents/guardians. Human Resources: Conduct all aspects of the Van Driver hiring process including: recruitment,

interviewing and hiring. Complete annual performance evaluations. Coordinate all Van Driver physicals and certifications maintaining ODE compliance. Department Operational Budget: Assist Department Manager in creating, submitting, executing, and evaluating the direct

budget lines impacted. Additional Support:

Manage and coordinate the Van Driver certification process. Provide support to other department supervisors/administrators in their areas of

responsibilities and during their absence provide support to others in these areas. Administer and provide customer service while supporting dispatch/secretarial staff as

they meet the needs of constituents.

AUTHORITY: Hire and assign Van Drivers. Empowered to make decisions based on facts and data.
