Avalanche of Goals

The 1999 Age Group ‘A’ Squad absolutely ‘invaded’ the Cumbernauld Colts Tournament last weekend. It was a fabulous, sunny weekend when our superstars took on the ‘Colts’ and tournament hosts in our first game in serious competition. It was an embarrising double figure event with just about every member of Michael Innes’s squad managing to score. Poor Cumbernauld !!! For the rest of the day the squad just went goal mad and trounced everyone in sight without conceding a goal. Double figures was the order of the day. Captained by Connor Stewart, the ‘gang’ continued where they left off on tournament Day Two….trouncing Carbrain and Bathgate Juniors. Good word …trouncing !!! Goalkeeper Angus Carswell hardly touched the ball …never mind make a save !!! However as they got tired (and no wonder) they faltered slightly in the last game against Royston Rangers, and only managed a draw.

1999 ‘A’ Squad – Tournament Champions

Although it was a non competitive tournament – the students WON the tournament ...and came away with a beautiful medal to mark and remember the event. My thanks to Cumbernauld Colts for inviting us in what was a truly well organised festival. Gus Mac Pherson, St Mirren Manager, and ex-Scotland Boys Club player, popped down to have a chat with me during the tournament and went over to the students during their team talk and wished them well. It was a nice gesture.

1998 Improvers impressive start to the Season’s campaign

What an absolute fantastic performance by the 1998 Improvers Squads…. They played against ‘fancied’ East End Thistle in what was an extremely hard fought, clean game …thrilling at times. The ‘A’ Squad just blitzed East End with a convincing two wins. A particularly competant performance to ‘new kid on the block’ – Lee Roulston, who scored a goal or two or three or four !!! But credit to all these students …they just work hard for each other, every time I watch them, and supported each other ALL through the match. The ‘B’ Squad surprised everyone winning their first game 2-1 and managed to pull back a 4-0 defeat to finish with a 4-4 draw in what was a classy, gutsy performance. Star of this performance was undoubtedly Cameron Carswell who was utterly amazing in goal. What a transformation in this squads’ ability – they can only get better. Full of determination, if the game went on just another five minutes they would have snatched victory.

New Scotland Strip launched this week …24th August….order NOW !!!

The NEW Scotland Strip has been launched at last (pictured left). On 24th August we seen the first look of our new kit. Can I please ask ALL parents to now go and seek…before they are all finished. Once you have obtained the kit, you must take it over to DEE SPORTS in Dundyvan Road in Coatbridge and they will put GOLD SQUAD NUMBERS on the back – along will your name.

They will also put a Gold number on the front of the jersey, and gold number on the shorts for a nominal fee. IMPORTANT …it must be GOLD NUMBERS …and they must be done in DEE SPORTS. For consistency sake. Now please do not expect them to do it right away. You may have to leave the kit with them…and go back and collect. Now the 5/6 year old INFANT KITS are not in until 1st September and neither are the goalkeeper kits in until then …so you will have to wait a week or so.

There are a number of ways of obtaining the kit …but the best is ON-LINE. On-Line from : or acasports.co.uk or

I can rest assure you that when this kit goes out of stock …you will never see hide nor hair of it again…They order a huge start up quantity…and do not replenish, because of the high minimum ordering levels. They had plenty yesterday at the Hampden Shop…I checked when I was working at Hampden yesterday….but that was then. Remember I will have 80 kids rushing up there from this Academy alone !!! So get searching.

Stocks will soon be available from JJB Sports and Sports Soccer. Now as far as the playing squads are concerned….DO NOT USE YOUR NEW KIT FOR TRAINING. That is what your old stuff is for….. The new kit is for games only. Then, during the next few weeks you ALL will be measured for the Training Kit (for training obviously) and the Tracksuit (for games) and new Bags (for both). We will keep you informed about these measuring dates when we get our full range of samples in. There will also be full samples for the adults (coaches).

Unfortunately due to the vast number of coaches and the expansion of the Academy, the Club will not be able to subsidise coaches uniform (which is EXACTLY the same as the students. You will also get a heavy discount, SAME AS THE STUDENTS, and all your equipment will be personalised too. The transformation period is now till Xmas. From January 1st 2007, the entire Academy will be 80 student strong, 20 coaches, all fully kitted out EXACTLY the same !!!

The ones who have already bought the kit….can you use it in games from NOW ???? Of course you can …after all that is why you bought it. 2000 Age Group …you CAN all wear the kit for training…that is why you have all bought the kit. Any NEW players who do not have the old kit…you will obviously have to wear the new kit until the training kit is ready.

Any students who have not got the old strip and have not yet obtained the new strip, wear plain navy socks, plain white shorts, for games……and you will just have to wear any strip and a BIB from ourselves (not very professional) …so let’s get the kit. IF YOU ARE NOT FAST …YOU WILL BE LAST…especially where this Scotland Kit is concerned.

Scotland Boys Club’s ‘Trick or Treat’ 1998 Halloween Festival of Soccer

Let’s scare the life out of our opposition. It is intended that the Academy will hold TWO ‘Mini-Soccer’ Festivals in the near future. A 1998 Festival will a Halloween Theme on Sunday 29th October 2006 for ALL 1998 Age Groups and a St Valentine’s Day Theme Festival for the 1999 and 2000 Age Groups on Sunday 11 February 2007.

At this moment in time I need VOLUNTEERS (Parents) from the 1998 Age Groups only …School of Excellence, Academy PLUS, and 1998 Improvers. Please give your name to Theresa NOW …TONIGHT if possible….so that she can pass your names and phone numbers onto our Events Co-ordinator, Mr Eddie Gibson MBE. (Mobile, Bluenose, and eccentric). We need your names NOW …if this is to be a success. Volunteers for all sorts of tasks are needed. We need a right squad gathered together. Or it will NOT go ahead. This is a perfect ‘mini-fund-raiser’ …Once we get all your names, we will have a meeting with you all, get all your ideas (with a HALLOWEEN THEME of course. So get volunteering and get thinking of how we can make money on the day …with a Halloween flavour to it all. Everything from referees, shop servers, programme sellers, stewards, etc are needed…and remember …you can volunteer relatives, sons, daughters etc ….we need as much help as we can….The same appeal will happen in December when we will appeal for helpers from the 1999 and 2000 age groups for the February Festival. So you guys get thinking too. Raffles, Bouncy Castles, Beat the Goalie …we have a lot to organise …so get thinking. And anyone who can donate food, equipment, or loan us bits and pieces ….let us know. We need your ideas.
