A nominee may - Air & Waste Management Association

Fellow Grade of MembershipA nominee for Fellow Grade of Membership shall have been in a field related to the mission and objectives of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) for a minimum of 15 years, and been a Member (other than a student member) for at least 10 consecutive years. Election as a Fellow shall be in recognition of two categories: professional accomplishments, and service to A&WMA.Professional Accomplishments, in the areas of the mission and objectives of A&WMA, shall be based on process, product, or regulatory development; project leadership; managerial achievement; the education of specialists; peer reviewed technical publications; patents; and research or theoretical developments. Service and achievement in other professional societies may also be considered.Service to A&WMA shall be based on contributions to the advancement of the mission and objectives of A&WMA at the local and/or international level. Service to the Association is broadly defined as any activity that contributes to the mission and objectives of the Association, including membership in the Association, activities associated with its technical and other committees, attendance at annual meetings and specialty events; section and chapter activities; teaching/mentoring; and community and outreach activities which advance the mission and objectives of the Association.SelectionSelection as a Fellow Member requires that the nominee has made “Outstanding” contributions in at least one of the two categories and demonstrated “Significant” contributions in the other. Fellow Member criteria are a mixture of specific, measurable accomplishments and subjective assessments of accomplishments and activities. Since members of the Fellow Member Admissions Committee (the “Committee”) may not know the nominee, the clearer and more detailed the submission, the more straightforward the selection process. After evaluation of the submissions by the Committee, nominees must have a minimum average score of an “Outstanding” rating in at least one category (>30 points for Professional Accomplishments or >40 points for Service to A&WMA) and a “Significant” rating in the other (25 points in Professional Accomplishments or >35 points in Service to A&WMA). Further evaluation criteria for the Professional Accomplishments category can be found in the “How Nomination Scores will be Evaluated” section of these guidelines.Nominator’s Evaluation Form and Professional RecordA nominee may not self-nominate. Nominators likely will need assistance from the nominee in providing the information required on this form, however, and it is advisable that the nominee look over the final form (but not the letters of support) for accuracy before it is submitted. Resume/curriculum vitae should be current and provide a good introduction to the nominee. More important than the resume, however, is the detailed presentation of Professional Accomplishments and Service to A&WMA addressed specifically to each relevant area of the nomination form. The Committee encourages electronic (MS Word or PDF) submittal of all parts of the nomination form to expedite the review process. In addition to the nominator, please provide the name and contact information for at least one reference for the nomination. This person should be familiar with the accomplishments of the nominee and support their nomination for Fellow Membership. At least one reference shall be a current member of A&WMA. It is optional for references to provide a letter in support of the nominee. Letters of support can either be forwarded by the reference directly to the A&WMA Honors & Awards Coordinator or provided to the nominator to be submitted with the nomination package. Please ensure that all information is submitted either by including it in the relevant sections of the following category evaluation tables (preferred) or by use of attachment sheets referenced to each specific section of the tables. Please provide estimated point counts and adequate supporting information to document the nomination. The two most common mistakes made by past nominators are:Providing insufficient detail on the actual professional accomplishments of the nominee.Applying the same experience to more than one area of accomplishment (double-counting). Each activity or contribution should be claimed in only one category.Professional AccomplishmentsProcess, Product, or Regulatory Developments: This criterion gauges the nominee’s contribution to development of: a) an environmental engineering process, b) a new product for evaluation or control of environmental pollution, or c) a regulatory rule, law, mediation or public participation process. It emphasizes bringing an idea to fruition.Research and Development: This criterion emphasizes the research or formation of ideas and the study and analysis even if the application isn’t immediately known. This is in contrast to bringing developments to fruition as in Criterion 1.Project Leadership: This criterion emphasizes the project leader or team manager responsibilities in taking a project through completion. This should be separate from the normal management functions in Criterion 4.Managerial Achievements: This criterion is reserved for organizational management roles ernmental Achievements: This criterion is reserved for governmental roles that may be different from the roles in Criteria 1 – 4.Educational Achievements: This criterion is reserved for training, either in academic or professional situations. Book writing usually also falls into this criterion.Unique or Special Accomplishments: This criterion is reserved for items that don’t fit under any other criteria; refrain from duplication. Points in this criterion require additional support than for other criteria.Technical Articles: This criterion should include up to 10 peer-reviewed articles to assure maximum points.Patents: This criterion should include up to 10 patents awarded to the nominee, either individual or group. A short explanation of each patent should be provided.Professional Registration: A listing of all appropriate professional registrations should be included. The minimum requirements for an “Outstanding” rating in Professional Accomplishments:The nominee must receive a total of 30 from Committee members. The nominee must be rated outstanding by at least three Committee members on at least one of criteria 1 – 6, with the average point count exceeding 8.The minimum requirements for a “Significant” rating in Professional Accomplishments:The nominee must receive an average point total of 25 from Committee members. The nominee must be rated excellent or outstanding by at least three Committee members in at least one of criteria 1 – 6, with the average point count exceeding 6.Service to A&WMA and to Qualifying International OrganizationsA&WMA staff will verify that a nominee held an A&WMA International office. Other criteria require supporting information. The supporting information should include as much detail as possible, e.g., dates of office. The nominator’s evaluation of points is not final. The individual members of the Committee will make their own judgments as to the number of points warranted in each category. The easier the nominator leads them to the verification of his/her point count, the more certain the result. Point inflation by the nominator is not helpful. The maximum points, if applicable, are listed with each criterion. For an “Outstanding” rating in this table, the nominee must amass at least 40 points. For a “Significant” rating, the nominee must amass at least 35 points.Qualifying International Organizations are organizations with a Memorandum of Agreement with the A&WMA. LimitationsMembers of the Fellow Admissions Committee shall not nominate or serve as references for nominees.Summarize your point totals in the Summary table on page 10.Submission Deadline: December 7, 2020You are encouraged to submit a notice of intent to submit a nomination prior to the deadline.Nominee’s Contact Information(Please complete all sections)Name: Present Position / Title: Company / Organization / Institution: Address: City: State/Province: Zip/Postal Code: Country: Phone: Fax: E-mail: Supporting Documentation Enclosed with Nomination Form(Please check all that are submitted in your package) Resume / Curriculum Vitae Completed Nomination Form, including Evaluations and Summary of Points Nominator and Reference Information (References may provide support letters if they like, but this is optional.)Submit one copy of your nomination package electronically (preferred) or by fax by the deadline to:Fellows Admissions Committeec/o Lisa Moses, Air & Waste Management AssociationPhone:+1-412-232-3444Fax: +1-412-232-3450 (if faxing, please notify of this by email due to staff working remotely)E-mail:lmoses@ If you need help or have any questions, please contact Lisa Moses.
