Experiment Background: Throughout this school year we have been studying different aspects of the environment. Today we will begin a two-week research project on endangered animals. You will research and write a report on an endangered animal of your choosing. You will need to use your library skills to locate books and web sites about your animal. You will need to take notes and synthesize facts in your report. Your final project will be a written report.

Project Instructions: 1. Choose an endangered animal to research. 2. Research your animal in the library and on the internet. 3. Take notes covering the following key areas: *Physical Characteristics *Hunting/Eating Habits *Habitat *Enemies *Why Endangered? (plight) *Ways to draw attention to & support the effort to save the animal (Your notes will be turned in with your final copy.) 4. Write your research paper making sure to have an introduction and conclusion. 5. Peer Edit your paper using the Editor’s Checklist 6. Teacher Edit 7. Final Copy including Bibliography

Criteria: 1. Animal chosen is endangered. 2. Adequate sources are used. 3. Research paper covers all six key areas. 4. All key areas are adequately discussed. 5. The animal’s plight is explained in detail. 6. Many ways to draw attention to and support the effort to save the animal are given. 7. There is an introduction and conclusion. 8. Information is organized and paragraphs are well-constructed. 9. There are no grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors. 10. Notes show that many notes were taken.
