November is Manatee Awareness Month and Miami Seaquarium is making it easy for you

to support the efforts of the Sea to Shore Alliance. This organization monitors manatees, so

we can better understand them and find ways to better protect these gentle giants.

Rehabilitation

Miami Seaquarium? is committed to wildlife conservation

and the rescue, rehabilitation and release of distressed

marine mammals. This commitment began even before the

park first opened its doors. In July of 1955, the park's

conservation work began when Maime, a 3 week old, 47

Animal Facts

One of the important animals that live along the Florida

coast and in its rivers is the Florida manatee. Manatees are

non-aggressive, non-territorial herbivores that spend most

of their time feeding (6 - 8 hours a day) and resting (2 - 12

hours a day). The remainder of the day is spent traveling,

investigating objects and interacting with other manatees.

Manatees do not have "biting" teeth, but they have only
