TABLE 22.3 shows that is much lower for both normal and sickle-cell hemoglobin when oxygen was lacking, but the sickle-cell hemoglobin was even less soluble under that condition than normal hemoglobin. Sickle-cell hemoglobin crystallizes in the absence of oxygen, and this can be very damaging to red blood cells and capillaries. (CH22) ................
