3) Answer the questions as well as you can. Don’t look for the only “right answer”, answer what you think and what the Lord brings to your mind

Life Group Study Questions

Read Ecclesiastes 4:5-12

What are some characteristics of a healthy relationship? (Including friends, dating, marriage, family... any relationship)

What are the root causes that pull apart relationships? Reflect on your relationships with others and observe your own responses to these tensions. Include your family and church relationships.

What does “two are better than one” mean? Is this always true?

How can a marriage reflect this concept?

Do you think Solomon only refers to two individuals or could it refer to a greater number of people? How does Ecclesiastes 4:12 help shed light on this?

How can a church reflect this concept?

Some people are so achievement oriented that they do not show much if any concern for those around them. Solomon was like this during part of his life. After looking back on his life, he did not think it produced what it should have (cf. 2:11).  Do you at all have this tendency to achieve while neglecting those around you?  If so, what happens as a result? Explain.

Looking over verse 4:9 again, summarize the main concepts that are being taught here.

Have you seen this situation before where a person works so hard but never really questions the reason for it? Is a person’s value merely defined by the work that they accomplish? Should time with the family give way to demands at work? How do we resolve this tension?

What can you do to strengthen the relationships you currently have, or what do you need to do to find new ones?
