Kontron Medical has enhanced its range of modular anaesthesia system components through the introduction of an advanced, fully integrated, electronically controlled ventilator :

the ABT 5300.

The ABT 5300 has been designed to meet the needs of the anaesthesia environment of today and the future.

In particular it employs modern microprocessor and pneumatics technology to provide high levels of reliability patient safety and comfort, plus compatibility with important cost saving techniques such as low flow re-breathing anaesthesia.

The ability of the 5300 to communicate easily with external devices is also a vital benefit in today's information driven clinical environment.

Extensive ventilation capability

All the commonly employed modes of ventilation used in anaesthesia are available and accessible. These include IPPV with a tidal volume range of 50 ml to 1500 ml, manually controlled ventilation, and spontaneous breathing through a low resistance circuit.

Additionally the ABT 5300 offers higher level features to enable you to manage patients with complicated respiratory conditions. These include IMV a pressure based triggering mode and a sigh function. Patient ventilator synchrony is further enhanced through the choice of two inspiratory wave forms : a physiologically based sinusoidal accelerated flow pattern or a traditional square wave with plateau.

Peep and a wide selection of l/E ratios complete a powerful and flexible ventilatory package suitable for a very wide range of patients and conditions.

Low flow, re-breathing anaesthesia

The ABT 5300 is superbly compatible with either re-breathing or non re-breathing techniques.

However, it is especially well suited to today's imperative of low flow anaesthesia techniques.

We employ electronic differential control of the reservoir bag to continuously monitor the level of fresh gas flow available to ensure that the set tidal volume is always delivered. Alarms alert you to any incompatibility between fresh gas flow and set tidal volume (VT.)

In this way, during re-breathing anaesthesia, the optimal and selected balance of gases is always maintained in the circuit at any fresh gas flow.

The ABT 5300 has the ability to entrain ambient air if the fresh gas flow cannot support the selected VT.

Any dilution of the FiO2 in this situation is indicated by the integrated polarographic O2 monitoring and alarm system.

A comprehensive approach to ventilation safety

Circuit pressure is a critical parameter for volumetric ventilators. The ABT 5300 controls and monitors circuit pressure in a precise way.

Adjustable high and low pressure alarms provide audible and visual indication of violations of alarm limits caused by incidents such as kinked breathing circuits or major circuit leaks.

An automatic pressure release facility in the expiratory valve system further safeguards the patient from barotrauma.

The pressure based monitoring and alarm system is also supported by expired minute volume monitoring and alarms from high precision turbine spirometry.

The oxygen content of the inspired gas mixture is monitored and displayed continuously.

A crisp, alpha numeric display provides clear messaging for alarm states and other essential information. Data communication to our Elios 2 modular monitoring system or other external information management products is facilitated through an RS 232 interface.

Economy of operation

In addition to compatibility with cost saving techniques such as low flow anaesthesia, the ABT 5300 does not require or consume any pneumatic driving gas.

Maintenance and sterilisation made easy

The integrated bellows and patient circuit are easily unlocked and extracted for sterilisation via steam autoclave.
