Route to End of 498…

A) Go to the URL and fill in the form there labeled “survey form for graduating seniors”. After completing the form, email Keith Lynn (lynn@cis.usouthal.edu) informing him that you have completed the form.

B) Make an appointment for an Senior Exit Interview with Dr. Feinstein. The Dean and the Coordinators of the School of CIS wants your insights and suggestions regarding the School of CIS, it faculty, its curriculum, its resources for the purpose of improving the curriculum.

C) After a time/date has been set for your program presentation, your group will be responsible for making up

1) an announcement for the event, posting it in FCW, FCE, and CSCB buildings, and placing one into each CIS faculty/staff mail box. Feel free to be “creative” in your announcement. You are selling your presentation. You have done good work, so show it off with pride!

2) a survey form for attendee evaluation of your project presentation. The survey should have the following information:

a) Team name and team member names

b) One line description of the project

c) Checkboxes for self-description of the evaluator (class member, undergrad not in class, graduate, faculty, visitor, etc)

d) Survey items to answer the following questions:

1. Did the presentation provide the following: clear statement of the problem and objectives, requirements, and solution? Did it cover a comparative analysis of the project plan with what actually take place, types of software testing that occurred, an accounting of unforeseen obstacles and how they were handled? How could the presentation have been improved?

2. Did the project demonstration meet the requirements of the project?

3. Is the project problem appropriate for the senior project course? If not, for this project, what might have been done to reach the appropriate level.

4. Anything else that is appropriate for your particular project.

D) Give an hour-long presentation of your project. This should follow the details mentioned on “CIS 498 Project Presentation” handout. Distribute the survey sheet prior to the presentation, gather them up after the presentation, and hand them to me without examining them. I will meet with your team to examine them and discuss your presentation and demonstration.

E) Submit your project in a team folder by 5pm August 5, 1999. That folder should contain:

1) A cover page outside of the folder identifying your team: name and members.

2) A cover page inside that also has identifying data.

3) A table of contents page

4) Project documentation, minimally consisting of the following:

a) A clear statement of your problem (note this will be a slightly modified version of your description from CIS 497).

b) A description of the methodology that you used in the project.

c) A description of the “planning tools” you used and the general accuracy of their outcome. This means that you will revisit your Gantt chart/COCOMO report. You projected such and such… and what actually happened was….

d) A description of the solution that you implemented with all of the tools used identified clearly.

e) An analysis of the value of the tools used with respect to: ease of learning; problem areas; overall value of use of that tool; or other general remarks regarding them.

In Appendices:

f) A user’s manual for your project.

g) If appropriate, an administrator’s manual for your product.

h) A print out of source code that you wrote for the project. This need not include all of the code written for you by a code generator!

i) A disk with all of your code on it in source code/executable code format.

j) A brief set of instructions on how to install/setup your program. If this appears in your administrator’s manual then it need not be included as a separate section.

k) Any other special documentation requirements for your project.

5) The client evaluation form and mentor evaluation forms. The form acknowledges that the client and mentor have reviewed the final product that is being delivered. It requires a signature by your client of acceptance of your project. The forms will be submitted in a sealed envelope with evaluator signature on seal. This is done to allow your client to provide a “frank” evaluation of your project effort and the quality of the outcome relative to expectations.

6) Submit your individual evaluation of yourself and your team members in a sealed envelope with the binder that contains your team project. In that same envelope I want you to submit your final individual writing assignment for CIS498. It should be a three to five page (1” margins; double spaced; 12 point Times Roman) report on your personal feelings on the Senior Design Project experience. This should include how your group functioned, major sources of arguments, how arguments were resolved, things learned about yourself or others, the “value added” by having multiple perspectives on the problem, the value to you of your exposure to any of the tools you used. It may also include any other appropriate “reflective thought” items relative to what you have experienced. “Was it good for you?”
