Olathe North High School Eagle Flight Crew Application2019 – 2020An Eagle Flight Crew applicant should enter this activity with an understanding that, if selected, he/she will be committed to fulfilling all EFC responsibilities. A EFC member has an obligation to the other members of the EFC and Olathe North High School to attend all meetings and scheduled functions as well as to perform all other responsibilities to the best of his/her abilities.Purpose of the Eagle Flight Crew:To uphold school spirit, promote a sense of superior sportsmanship among the student body and to represent Olathe North in a positive manner through the development of leadership skills. Eligibility:Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior in good standingMinimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (when applying)Selection:Applicants must complete an application and essay and have it signed by a parent or legal guardian.Input from the Olathe North faculty will be solicited – students will give the teacher recommendation forms to his/her seven teachers from the current school year. These comments will remain confidential.Applicants who meet the grade and citizenship requirements will be invited to an interview with the EFC sponsor and an administrator. The EFC sponsor and administrator will make the final selections for members of the EFC for the 2019 – 2020 school year.Expectations:Students selected to be a member of the EFC will be expected to fulfill the following duties. Any member not living up to its expectations will be dealt with as the sponsor weighs the situation, its impact on the school, and the other members of EFC.Leadership Class: A leadership class has been provided in the ONHS class schedule for member of the EFC to enroll. In that class, the groups will plan skits, make signs and announcements, and develop and implement leadership skills. Attendance, active participation, written work, speeches, and community service will be part of the grade given for the class.Model Positive Leadership, Contagious Enthusiasm, and Great Attitude: The EFC members are visible role models and are expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner that would bring credit and praise to Olathe North, its student body, and staff. They should be above the reproach in the classroom, hallways, and community. The use, possession, or distribution of tobacco products (i.e. cigarettes, e-cigs, vapes, etc.), alcohol or illegal drugs are prohibited at any time on behalf of EFC members.Attendance: Members are expected to attend every event that is scheduled for participation. There should be no conflicts in attending assigned school events with a job outside of school. Any absence should be communicated and cleared by Mrs. Eick. Unexcused absences will result in a deduction of points from the member’s grade in the leadership class. Repeated problems could result in suspension and/or dismissal. EFC members are expected to be on time and appropriately dressed to all events.If an EFC member does not meet the above expectations, the sponsor will address it with the member privately. If the problem persists, a meeting between the member, sponsor, parents, and possibly with an administrator will be requested. Once an agreement has been reached between all parties, and the member still does not uphold the EFC expectations, suspension and/or dismissal will result. If necessary, class schedule changes can be made at any point in the school year. Teacher Recommendations:Attached there are seven teacher recommendations. Your seven current teachers must complete these recommendations. Please write your name on each recommendation before requesting your teacher to complete. Give these recommendations to your teachers as soon as possible to ensure they have time to complete the form by Wednesday, March 13th at 3:30 pm. Please tell your teacher to put the completed form in Mrs. Eick’s mailbox or teachers can drop it off in Mrs. Eick’s room (713).Essay:Please answer the following questions. Treat this requirement like an important class assignment or a job application (i.e. typed, double spaced, professional). Please answer each question in 3-5 sentences. Be genuine and honest in your answers. Turn in your answers with your application to Mrs. Eick by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20th.
