Working Title: Your Money or Your Life:

Robbery in Four Cities and Anomie Theory.

Abstract:

In this paper I will describe robbery in four cities, namely, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago and San Francisco specifically comparing overall rates of reports and arrests, then I will look specifically at variations in race, age and gender of arrestees and victims. In the paper I will also attempt to apply the anomie theory as an explanation for robbery. To address the influence of anomie, I will obtain the unemployment rates, population density, and percent minority in the cities as measures of anomie. A critique of the theory is included.
