Elements of a Short Story WebQuest

Activity 1: Character Sketch: You will need to copy this activity into a word document. Go to Edit, Select All. Then, go to Edit, Copy. Open a new Word document and go to Edit, Paste so you will be able to complete this activity in Microsoft Word. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON THIS DOCUMENT!! When you are done, you can save it to your student folder, and you can name it your first initial, last name, and “character”. For example, you might save it as mshepardcharacter.doc. Print it out and turn it in for your grade.

Activity 2: Painting a Picture with Words:

(5-10 sentences per activity)

You will select one picture for Activity A and one picture for Activity B. Copy the picture you are discussing into a word document and type your answers there. Save it by your name and “setting” in your folder (ex. Mshepardsetting.doc). Print out this sheet (with your name on it!!) and turn in for your grade.

Activity 3: Click on Plotting a Fairy Tale and put the elements of plot in the correct order. In this activity, you will find the main events in the fairy tale "Cinderella." Drag each event to the appropriate point on the plot diagram. Save and print out for your grade.

Click on either “Plotting a Fairy Tale” or “activity.”

Activity 4: Point of View: Rewrite the scenario from Tom OR Leslie’s point of view.

Write your scenario in word. Make sure your name is on it, it is saved (ex. Mshepardpov.doc) and print it out for a grade.

Activity 5: Theme: Read “The Fun They Had” by Isaac Asimov. If you choose to read this story aloud in pairs, that is an option. When you have finished, write a paragraph (5-10 sentences) in Word explaining the theme of the story. As you are forming your opinion, keep in mind the impact setting, plot, characters, and point of view have in presenting the "whole picture."
