The Helpline Center congratulates Alan Cook on being named the June 2019 Volunteer of the Month, an area-wide award program sponsored by the Helpline Center.

There to honor and celebrate Alan were Jake McGlade, Volunteer Manager at Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity; Dan McColley, Executive Director at Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity; Heidi Gullickson, Executive Director at Brookings Area United Way on behalf of Sarah Lippert, Volunteer Connections Coordinator for the Helpline Center; and numerous family and community members.

Alan started volunteering with Brookings Area Habitat for Humanity in early 2016 when we were building a house for his daughter. He helped out on that house, caught the “Habitat bug”, and has continued to work on every house built by Habitat since.

Alan is part of our Foundation Crew. He shows up every week from 9a-3p on Wednesdays and Thursdays to help us build homes and fulfill our mission of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live”.

Alan goes above and beyond just volunteering with the organization. Alan enjoys getting to know all of the homeowners we build for, as well as new volunteers to Habitat. He always helps out and attends our home dedications, potlucks and picnics. He's become a large part of Habitat, and someone we can always count on.

Congratulations, Alan, on being our much-deserved June Volunteer of the Month!
