The School Operations Manager leads the business operations, administrative and technical services for the academic School, is an integral part of the School’s Senior Leadership Team, the University’s Wider Leadership Team and the University’s Operations Leadership Group. The post holder will take overall responsibility for the development of high-quality business operations to deliver the School’s strategy, balanced with University-wide strategic objectives. In addition, the post holder will ensure sustainable operational effectiveness through the fostering of a culture of innovation and improvement to facilitate an excellent experience for students and staff. They will provide sound business advice as part of the strategic decision-making within the School as a core member of the School’s Leadership Team and play a key role, with other School Operations Managers, in ensuring consistency in working practices across all Schools. Main areas of responsibilitySchool Business and Operations Lead on all aspects of operational service delivery within the School to ensure the delivery of high quality administrative, technical and business support services to facilitate effective academic delivery, and advising the School and Wider Leadership Teams accordingly. Responsible and accountable for leading the planning and delivery of all academic administration activities within the School, ensuring effective delivery of recruitment activities, academic programmes and support services to facilitate an excellent experience for students. Foster an ethos of innovation and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for service improvements and leading change programmes to deliver enhanced ways of working. Oversee compliance matters across the School to ensure effective understanding and adherence to UKVI, GDPR, Health and Safety and other statutory requirements, as well as University quality standards, financial regulations and policies. Planning Play an integral leadership role in influencing and developing long-term School strategy aligned to the University’s strategic objectives and lead the implementation of School-wide operational plans. Work closely with colleagues in the Planning & Performance Department, Admissions, Marketing & Communications and other members of the School’s Senior Leadership Team to set and achieve targets for student recruitment. Finance and business development As part of the School Leadership Team implement resource management strategies and initiatives across the School and manage delegated budgets to ensure effective and flexible use of resources and financial control to meet changing needs. Lead the business development agenda for the School, actively seeking opportunities to drive external income, liaising with industry representatives and providing high-level support and advice as part of the School Leadership Team on the financial viability and feasibility of initiatives in line with School plans. Staff and Management Be responsible for managing and leading all professional services and technical staff within the School to be successful in their roles and oversee the handling of staffing issues in line with University policy. On behalf of the Head of School oversee, coordinate and take responsibility for human resource operations for the entire school, including staff recruitment, induction, workload planning and staff development activities and reviews. Collaboration and Influencing Represent and promote the School at institutional level, contributing to the development of policies and procedures at University and School level and operating collaboratively as a member of the Operations Leadership Group. To advise and influence at senior levels within the School and University in support of identified business operations service needs.Contribute the interests of the School and the University to relevant sector debates through participation in appropriate professional networks. Work closely with the University’s Operations Leadership Group to ensure a collaborative and innovative approach to delivering the University’s strategic objectives and sharing good practice. Work collaboratively with senior business partners across other areas of the University e.g. Human Resources, Finance, Marketing & Communications, Estate & Facilities Management and Academic Services to ensure professional services staff operate as one team.
