OPTIONAL POST GENERAL ASSEMBLY TOURS IN ZIMBABWE

Option 1 : Victoria Falls / Hwange National Park

Price : US$ 60 per person (inclusive of National Park entrance fee and transport)

Date: One day tour departing from Victoria Falls - Saturday, 01 November 2003

Programme : - visit Hwange National Park, a national park enclosing several cultural sites, and several hundreds of game.

- drive back to Victoria Falls

- visit Victoria Falls Village and Craft Centre (evening show)

Option 2 : Victoria Falls - Matopos Hills Area - Great Zimbabwe - Harare

Price : US$ 150 per person (inclusive of coach and transit refreshments; accommodation, breakfast and dinner at Great Zimbabwe; national park entry fees) or US$ 250 if you wish ICOMOS Zimbabwe to arrange accommodation for you in Harare for Sunday, 2 November 2003.

Date : Two day tour departing from Victoria Falls - Saturday, 01 November and Sunday, 2nd November. Arrival in Harare late on Sunday, 2nd November.

Depart Victoria Falls: 0500hrs

Arrive in Bulawayo: 1000hrs

Activities : visit of Matopos Hills area and Natural History Museum. The Matopos Hills area is a cultural landscape exhibiting continued occupation from Stone Age to present day communities. Sites include stone age, iron age, historical, rock art sites and sites associated with living traditions. It is now a World Heritage site.

Depart Bulawayo for Great Zimbabwe: 1600hrs

Arrive at Great Zimbabwe: 1900hrs

Activities: Cultural dance at the Traditional Village courtesy of ICOMOS Zimbabwe.

Buffet dinner at the Traditional Village (included in the tour fee)

Overnight accommodation and breakfast at Great Zimbabwe (included in the tour fee)

Sunday, 02 November 2003

Activities : Guided tour of Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site. Great Zimbabwe, a world heritage site, dates back to the 16th century and is characterised by dry stone walling, with outstanding important architectural design and symbolises a shrine for Zimbabweans.

Arrive in Harare: 1800hrs

NB: Overnight accommodation and meals in Harare at own expense

Option 3: Museum of Human Sciences (Harare), Domboshava, Chiremba

and Mbare Musika

Price : US$ 40 per person

Dates : Daily tour departing from Harare from 01 Saturday to 03 Monday November 2003. The tour departs Harare at 9 am and returns to Harare in the late afternoon at 15h30.

Activities : Besides the Museum of Human Sciences in Harare, the tour visits several sites on the outskirts of the city. Chiremba Balancing is a national monument characterised by spectacular geological formations (a series of balancing), and several rock art sites. It is located within Harare. Domboshava cave is a spectacular rock art site located on the edges of Harare and Mbare Musika is a very popular common market for Harare residents, showcasing traditional curios, arts, handicrafts and various traditional foods
