STAND Unity Clubs

STAND provides opportunities for students to unite across the marvelous cultural heritages that comprise our country. As a member of STAND, students belong to the cultural focus clubs Sama Sama, SOAR, Ujima, Unidos, and Us. Every Tuesday, students gather together during lunch to discuss and educate one another about cultural diversity and the societal issues revolving around people’s ethnicity, beliefs, religion, gender, and orientation.

Us revolves around issues of discrimination as they affect students because of their sexual orientation, gender, or beliefs and meets during lunch on the first Tuesday of each month in Room C-101.

SOAR stands for the Study Of All Religions and educates students about Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Bahai and all other faiths as it attempts to extinguish the stereotypes and prejudice that affects each and meets during lunch on the first Thursday of each month in Room C-101.

Unidos focuses on Latino culture and issues as it meets during lunch on the second Tuesday of each month in Room C-101.

Ujima concentrates on African American heritage and meets during lunch on the third Tuesday of each month in Room C-101.

Sama Sama centers on issues regarding Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and meets on the fourth Tuesday each month during lunch in Room C-101.

STAND brings together all students in the name of unity on the first Friday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in Room C-101.

STAND

is a multicultural student organization that began in 1990 as an attempt to fight racism and prejudice while promoting strength through diversity.

Today…

STAND

is represented on approximately 70 campuses in at least fourteen states and still fights the spread of racism and all forms of prejudice as we work to promote multicultural harmony, education, and respect.

STAND

Sponsors many cultural, educational, community, leadership, and fun activities in addition to publishing the monthly cultural newspaper Rhythms that helps people of diverse cultures better understand one another.

STAND

wants you to open your mind and learn to appreciate that which makes us unique. Only you can make the decision to join the united members of
