FOREWORD

Bladder cancer is the fifth most common cancer in men, but is only half as common in women. While it can occur at any age, it is rare under the age of 50 years and usually presents in older people. As with many cancers, there is a strong, but not exclusive link to cigarette smoking. The consequences of bladder cancer may be devastating, yet it represents a malignancy that is rarely talked about, or considered by most people. Consequently, there is a lack of community awareness, resources and research for this cancer. Bladder Cancer Australia Charity Foundation was formed to help address those issues. Our objectives are to increase awareness of the disease in both the general and political communities, and to provide information resources for patients, doctors and health care professionals. This booklet, and our web site ? .au ? are just the beginning. Over coming months we aim to provide further resources, but this will only be possible with community support, and that of the sponsors who made this publication possible. Please join these organisations in support of our foundation.
