This work instruction explains how to pack red blood cells (RBCs) using the E-120ARC shipping container for shipping 1 to 12 components using a 48-hour shipment configuration.

Supplies and Equipment

• E-120 insulated shipping container

• Absorbent material

• Plastic liner

• 1 Preconditioned 48-oz. Temperature Stabilizing Pack (TSP)

• 1-inch diameter bubble wrap, if needed

• Bagged wet ice

Introduction

The determining factor for the packing load is volume, not the number of components or bags included in the shipment. Photos used in this work instruction are for illustration purposes only. Follow the written steps to ensure proper packing.

The typical packing arrangement consists of 1 to 12 packed red cells.

| |Use a minimum of 18 lbs. of wet ice. | |

| |Put the wet ice it on top of the liner. | |

| |Ensure that all components are covered with wet ice. | |

|7 |Place the polystyrene lid inside the shipping container. |[pic] |

| |Ensure that the polystyrene lid lays flat. | |

| |Place the packing slip on top of the polystyrene lid and | |

| |close the carton. | |
