1. Call to order by Wray (approximately 10:20 PDT, delayed start because MTG Chair (Behls) had difficulties with audio – could hear other attendees but could not speak during call – as a result, he could not participate or vote).

• Quorum established: 13 of 25 needed; 13 members present and eligible to vote, including 4 Alternates where VM absent.

• Agenda approved as provided (Motion to approve Anderson/Hauer, 13-0-0-CNV).

• Minutes from last call were approved by letter ballot.

• Reminder to submit short bios for internal distribution within the MTG (Wray). Getting all the bios submitted is important for MTG coordination, so that all members can become familiar with each other’s backgrounds.

2. Review of MTG purpose and scope, goals, and objectives (Wray).

• Briefly discussed existing purpose and scope, goals, and objectives as described on the MTG website. Further discussion postponed until Item 5, where MTG title change will be discussed.

3. Strategic planning ad hoc subcommittee activities (Smith).

a. Discussed action plans and assignments for several of the 38 ideas submitted to date, primarily for those where the proponents were present during the call.

|Idea Number |Discussion/Assignments |

|1 |Hauer to invite Anderson and Richardson to TC 1.11 conference call on April 7, |

| |2014, where idea will be discussed in further detail. |

|2 |Coward/Damiano assigned to coordinate. |

|3 |Coward/Boldt/Lord to coordinate. |

|5 |Smith/Modera to coordinate. |

|6 |Brooks stated that ISO TC 117 is meeting soon on this issue. A lot of related |

| |work has been completed already. Brooks/Behls to coordinate. |

|12 |Boldt/Behls to coordinate. |

|13 |Boldt to check whether idea is still relevant, given that Steve Taylor is |

| |reportedly writing a book on controls, which is near publication. |

|14 |Boldt/Lord to coordinate with Damiano. |

|15 |Brooks to coordinate with SPC 111 and TC 1.2 – extend idea to field measurements.|

|16 |Brooks/Eichelberger to coordinate with John Murphy and Jan Cermak (TC 5.1) to |

| |address field measurement and AHRI 260 issues. |

|17 |Brooks to coordinate with Behls. |

|18 |Brooks/Filler to coordinate. Related research is already underway at AMCA. |

|19 |Brooks to coordinate with TCs 1.2 and 5.3. |

|20 |Brooks suggested that Greg Sanchez (TC 5.1) could follow up to determine if |

| |related handbook revisions are needed. |

|21 |Should be lumped in with Idea 1. |

|22 |SPC 215P has been approved and will meet during the Seattle Annual Society |

| |Meeting (June 2014). |

b. Wray reminded attendees that new ideas are still encouraged. The list of ideas is not intended to be a static list.

4. Next steps (Wray).

a. Wray reminded attendees that each group should submit to Herman Behls a written summary of their planned research, handbook, standards, program, and training activities related to the MTG list of ideas.

5. MTG Name Change (Wray).

A possible new name for the MTG - “High Performance Air-Handling Systems for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings” - was proposed and discussed.

Background: The current name “Energy-Efficient Air-Handling Systems for Non-Residential Buildings” focuses on energy-efficiency aspects of the MTG’s efforts. However, the scope of the MTG and ideas submitted to date include other issues related to achieving high-performance systems, such as indoor environmental quality issues. Also, the building type listed is inconsistent with the SSPC 90.1 and 189.1 scopes.

Motion: MTG.EAS recommends to TAC that the MTG name be changed to “High Performance Air-Handling Systems for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings” (Filler/Brooks). Approved: 12-1[1]-0-CNV

6. Online ASHRAE forum (Vaughn).

• As discussed at the last MTG conference call, an on-line forum capability is available from ASHRAE, which will allow the public to view the list of MTG ideas and to offer comments and new ideas. MTG.EAS was the first ASHRAE group to be invited to try out this new concept. There was no progress by Abushakra and Kouvolo on this issue since the last call. Smith will follow up with Mike Vaughn and Joslyn Ratcliff (Manager, ASHRAE Electronic Communications and Applications) to set up a forum for the MTG, preferably before the Seattle Annual Society Meeting.

7. Other Business (Wray).

a. Membership

▪ No discussion, other than to note that a listserv has been set up for the MTG. Previous members who were not VMs or Alternates are no longer listed on the MTG roster, but can still keep track of MTG activities using the listserv. A link to the listserv is listed at the bottom of the MTG web page.

b. Date for next call

• Tentatively mid-September 2014. Primary purpose of next meeting is to discuss progress related to list of ideas.

8. Adjourn (noon PDT).

-----------------------

[1] Collie voted no because he thinks that the new name “excludes the energy efficient potential of non-ducted hydronic methods”.
