The Ideal Job Listing

To ensure your adverts attract the ideal candidates it's important that they interact well with our search technology. We have put together some guidelines to consider. Do's ? Structure and organize your Advert ? Use a clear and straightforward title referring to the role that you're looking to fill ? Include sufficient details in the Advert content and not in the title ? Use rich but clear language (include synonyms for the job title you're advertising for, give a clear

description of the required skills...) to cover a maximum number of potential job seeker search terms ? Make sure you select the appropriate categorization: functions, sectors, status, etc... must be applicable for the specific role you're advertising!

Don'ts ? Use large blocks of unstructured text ? Use an overly long Job Title including specific details about the job in the title (location, contact

information, contract details, skills...) ? Advertise multiple roles in one ad (in fact, try to avoid mentioning too many other job titles in your

ad, e.g. "frequent meetings with Sales Manager", as this could be misleading for the search) ? Add a list of keywords in the text of your ad. This will not be considered by the search and will

certainly not have a positive impact on the relevance ranking of your ad! There is a designated field for keywords available. ? Use obscure language: jargon or acronyms that aren't widely known or understood ? Include important information in images (layers) or video, as this text is not accessible to the search!

Advert Structure

Job Title ? The most effective Job Title simply states the job title for the position that you want to fill, e.g.

`Senior Marketing Data Analyst'. Use accessible and universal job descriptors, and avoid companyspecific references or non-frequent abbreviations and acronyms (so use `Human Capital Management Adviser' rather than `HCMA'). ? Do not use multiple job titles in the Job Title, even if they are synonymous. The semantic search will return exact matches as well as synonyms. ? Refrain from adding information on location, skills, employment details etc. in the title. This is merely noise for the search and will reduce the relevance ranking of your Advert. So, don't use titles like this one: "!!!IMMEDIATE START: Experienced, bilingual French/English Assistant to CEO OPENENDED CONTRACT!!!" Instead, use: "Management Assistant" and include the other information in the designated sections as discussed below.

Synopsis Here you provide a brief description of your company. Also, include an overview of the position. Eg A Leading Job Portal is looking for a Sales Executive. Must have your own transport and be prepared to work towards targets.

Job description ? Here you give a summary of the main duties and responsibilities associated with the position you are

seeking to fill. Make sure the potential candidate gets a realistic idea of what this function entails and what would be expected of him/her, but don't overload your ad with overly specific details. ? Do not mention skills here; those will be listed in the next section (candidate profile). ? To boost your ad in the relevance ranking, it is interesting to use some synonyms for the job title you are hiring. ? Specific information about the job at hand: starting date, working schedule (part time of full time, shifts, weekends, holidays...), traveling needs...

Experience, Qualifications & Skills ? This is where you list the educational background, experience and skills (`hard' and `soft' skills) that

you require in a good candidate. ? Clearly distinguish between absolute (minimum) requirements or conditions and more optional

assets in terms of education, experience and skills. ? You can also mention other eligibility criteria such as driver's Licence, country-specific criteria like

residence/working permit or labour status, etc. The goal is of course to get as few as possible unqualified candidates in the screening process!

The Ideal Job Listing

On the other hand, don't go overboard: a very long list of requirements can be discouraging or elements can be overlooked more easily! Benefits What do you have to offer the candidate? You can include information on the working environment, opportunities for growth and development, bonuses, etc Some final words of advice: Proofread your ad, or better yet, have someone else proofread it! Ideally, show the ad to someone working in a position like the one you're advertising. This could produce some useful tips! Think of your job ad as exactly that: an ad. An advertising opportunity for your company. With a dynamic, attractive and stimulating presentation of your company and the position you will be able to stand out and attract the very best candidates!
