What makes a leader

What makes a leader? Women have faced the eternal problem of how to reach her full potential in a business or profession and to be in tune with her own identity as a person. Each of us approaches the challenge differently. Wishing will not bring success, but planning, persistence, and a burning desire will. Active participation in BPW will result in the realization of one's potential responsibility, leadership, and effective involvement as a citizen of this great country! There is a gold mine within you from which you can extract all the necessary ingredients. Success is an attitude. As members, we have grown in confidence, stature and in benefits as a result of our organization's successes in bringing about a greater equality of opportunity. As we gather this evening, to install officers for the coming year, let us remember that we have a history of good leadership. The long lineage of BPW has shown that with the honor of holding a BPW office comes a responsibility. As you go through this coming year, remember...

You have the power you never dreamed of. You can do things you never thought you could do. There are no limitations in what you can do except the limitation in your own mind as to what you cannot do. Don't think you cannot . . . Think you can! The powers that you have are found not only in yourself but also in the members of the organization. Through friendship,

you can offer your fellow members an opportunity to achieve things they never thought they could do. You can help them grow from their selfimposed limitations . .. to be all that they can be.

Tonight is an important occasion in the lives of these women as they accept this awesome responsibility, but one which each of them have accepted willingly, proving that they have accepted the challenge presented to them, the opportunity to grow, and thus a leadership role in BPW.
