In 1803, the United States purchased from France almost 900,000 square miles of land in North America for $15 million. It included areas in 14 present – day states

West Florida remained Spanish it was not part of the Louisiana Purchase. People in the Florida Parishes revolted against Spain. West Florida became an independent nation, but America annexed the area and made it part of the state of Louisiana.
