Future Planning: It's Happening Around the World

I t's no secret that religious congregations around the world are engaged in future planning. Earlier this month Peggy Sullivan, CSJ, traveled to Dublin, Ireland, to work with the Provincial Team of the Anglo -Irish Province of the Religious of Christian Education [RCE] as they envision their future.

Over the years, Peggy has worked with the American sector of the Religious of Christian Education in developing a covenant relationship with another congregation to care for their American sisters into the future.

Following her week with the sisters in Dublin, Peggy had the opportunity to meet with the RCE General Council based in France while they were in the Boston area. This was a natural follow-up to her work with the AngloIrish Provincial Team.

In Transformational Leadership, Constance Fitzgerald, OCD, notes that taking religious life forward into a new vision, "...means that collaboration among religious communities will continue to be essential."1 It is, indeed, happening all over the world.

Adjusting the Lens

O n Saturday, September 12, a very enthusiastic group of associates, sisters who regularly journey with us and residents of the Motherhouse gathered to hear Rosemary Mulvihill, RSM, speak about Adjusting the lens... looking for quality of presence. Rosemary began with several different pairs of glasses and how we see through them. She invited us to adjust our lens so that the quality of our presence becomes most important. We were reminded to try to be mindful in each moment of our day with God, with ourselves, with one another. We should not be lost in the past or the future. It is in this moment that God is speaking. Notice creation around you ? God's presence everywhere and in everyone. We shared in small groups about what prevents us from being mindful, what helps us to stay focused, how we can adjust our own lenses through which we view others and our world. It was a gathering of richness and contemplative reflection. "Mindfulness is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment of daily life. To be mindful is to be truly alive." Thich Nhat Hanh
