West Australian Young Reader's Book Award is a readers' choice award, organised on a state wide basis for young readers

The scheme represents a positive attempt to generate enthusiasm for pleasure reading, to enrich children's reading experiences and to develop their powers of discrimination in comparing quality literature.

The Award operates on three levels - Younger Readers, Picture Books and Older Readers. Readers are invited to nominate, through their libraries, books that they have enjoyed. These nominations are then considered by the WAYRBA committee and the three lists are drawn up.

Students are then asked to read titles on the lists and evaluate them as  ‘terrific’, ‘good’, ‘okay’ or ‘awful.’

HOW TO VOTE?

• Children in year 4 -6 may participate.

• Students select a book from display and have it wanded out on the computer.

• When they have read the book have it wanded back in.

• Student to complete a voting slip (inside the book) teacher must sign it.

• Place the signed voting slip in box on Mrs Maskos’s desk.

• Student to vote once ONLY per book read.

Voting closes 25th  September Winners Announced 21st November
