If you don’t have that, you’ll want to plan a course ahead of time. You might want to use a cone at the end of hallways to signal to students when to turn.If you have access to a measuring wheel (some PE teachers or athletic departments have these), measure the length of your course. Contact Goshen Health if you need help planning your course.Plan Your Typical Club MeetingYou may want to set some ground rules at the start of your first club meeting. If you come, you are expected to walk or run.Be safe. No horseplay. Run on the right side of the hallway to avoid collisions.Listen to the adult volunteers. No put downs/bullying. Compete against yourself, not others.Have fun! Encourage others! Those who come and don’t participate or cause problems may be asked not to return.Start with a warm-up (walk the course or a couple laps in the gym) and stretching. You could also play a fun game for a few minutes to get started (tag, relays, etc).Run your set course for the chosen time. Time and course should be the same at each club meeting. Keep track of students’ laps using the EZ Scan app. For extra fun, you may want to play upbeat music through the school PA system during this time.Cool down. Walk the course or in the gym and stretch together as a group.Pass out rewards. Leaders may also hold rewards and give out weekly or at the end of the club.To keep students occupied while waiting to be picked-up, check with the library for children’s books with messages about health, nutrition or physical activity. Read a different book at the end of each club meeting. These are simply tips to help you run your club. Please feel free to modify to best suit the needs of the members within your club.Keep Records – Tracking Success!Club leaders will be instructed on how to use the EZ Scan app to track student progress. Leaders will need to have either an iPad or a phone (IOS or Android) in order to use the app.Rewards/SuppliesTokensEach student gets a chain to keep their tokens on.Each student gets a tennis shoe each time they come to running club. Each student gets a toe token (foot) for each cumulative mile they complete.Half-marathon (13.1) and marathon (26.2) tokens are available to reward student’s cumulative mileage over the course of the club.
