OctoPrint: DeltaMaker Screenshots

OctoPrint devel branch with Cura integration (April 2015) This document contains a collection of OctoPrint "screenshots". OctoPrint is the software that provides the control panel for the DeltaMaker 3D Printer. The latest version of this document may be downloaded from:

The DeltaMaker 3D Printer is a "network connected" printer and it accessed via a browser on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. The printer may be configured for either WiFi or Ethernet connectivity The examples in this document use the printer's builtin WiFi access point to access the printer. For security reasons, the builtin access point is not automatically enabled when the printer is connected to an Ethernet network. To enable the DeltaMaker WiFi access point, the printer must not be connected to an Ethernet cable when it is turnedon.

1. Turnon the DeltaMaker 3D Printer (if necessary, first disconnect the Ethernet cable). 2. Wait a minute or two for the DeltaMaker WiFi access point to become available. 3. On your computer or tablet, connect to the DeltaMaker_WiFi_#### (where #### is a 4

digit number), and enter the WiFi password. If you do not have your password, please contact DeltaMaker support. 4. Launch a web browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended) and navigate to: (or ). After a short delay, the following screen will be displayed:

Logging-in to the DeltaMaker 3D Printer

Select the "Login" function, enter the username and password, and press the "Login" button.

After loggingin, "admin" will be displayed in the upper right to show that you are logged in. Additional buttons will also be available under various tabs.

The RED highlighting indicates the most commonly used control buttons. The other control buttons are typically not used. The touch probe calibration buttons at the bottom of the page should NOT be used, unless you are specifically instructed to do so in our maintenance documentation or by our customer support team.

Before you print your first 3D object, you must ensure that the bed is level on your DeltaMaker by performing the automatic bed leveling procedure described below.

Automatic Bed Leveling

1. Ensure that the Acrylic Build Plate is installed on the DeltaMaker, with the three mounting washers centered over the three magnets on the printer.

2. Verify that the nothing is on the bed. 3. Press the "Auto Bed Mapping" button. 4. Wait while the touch probe moves around the surface of the bed. 5. Press the "Save & Home" button.

For your first print, we recommend one of the top 3 files in the list: 01_Calibration_Cube 02_DM_Logo 03_Mr_Jaws

Simply press the "printer"

icon on the right side of the file you would like to print.

The DeltaMaker will "home" itself, and begin processing the selected file.

The printer will move all three arms to the top to check the home position. Next, there will be a pause while the Extruder nozzle is heating up. The extruder temperature is monitored on the "Temperature" tab as shown below. Once the correct temperature is reached, the printing will begin.

The fan on the front of the Print Head will automatically turnon when the extruder is hot. Never touch the Nozzle, Fan or any other part of the Print Head while the fan is on.

When the print is complete, the printer will "home", and will automatically turn off the heat to the extruder. The fan will remain on while the Nozzle is cooling down.

Printing your own objects

After you have printed a few of the sample objects that were preloaded on your DeltaMaker, it's time to print your own 3D objects (or download some from your favorite 3D model sharing website). The industry standard file format for exchanging models for 3D printers is the STL file format. If you create your own 3D object in a CAD program, be sure to export your object as an ".STL" file when you are ready to print it. Likewise, many popular websites offer STL files for downloading. One such site is (the universe of things). In the example below, we will download a model and upload it to the DeltaMaker for printing.

Converting STL to GCODE

Before a 3D model may be printed, the STL file must be converted to the set of detailed instructions that guide the 3D printer. These instructions are called GCODE. With many 3D printers, this conversion process must be performed on your computer you create a GCODE file to be sent to your 3D printer. On the DeltaMaker 3D Printer the printing process is much more convenient. The DeltaMaker will accept STL files, and automatically convert them to GCODE so they may be printed. In essence eliminating the step of having to manually load the STL file into the "slicing" software, saving a gcode file and then uploading that file. We believe this feature is ideal for academic and group settings where time is at a premium to go from design to print. Printing STL files directly is a key advantage of the DeltaMaker 3D Printer. For advanced users who prefer to generate their own GCODE, the DeltaMaker will also accept GCODE files.
