For Immediate Release June 12, 2014Police, Fire-Rescue, Public Safety Communications Participate in Active Shooter ExerciseThe Plano Police, Fire-Rescue and Public Safety Communications Departments will participate in unique and important active shooter drills beginning June 16th. This is the first time all three City departments will participate in a training exercise of this magnitude. The purpose of this full-scale exercise is to enhance the preparedness and capabilities of the City of Plano’s Police, Fire, and Public Safety Communications Departments and test their abilities to respond and recover from an active shooter scenario. This exercise will simulate an emergency response from all three departments and give personnel an opportunity to utilize their standard operating procedures and available resources. During the exercise, evaluators will identify areas in which additional training is needed to ensure the safety of our citizens. This scenario will increase the level of preparedness should an active shooter or terrorist incident occur in the City of Plano. The exercise will be held at Prestonwood Baptist Church, located at 6801 W. Park Blvd in Plano. Public Information Officers will be on hand at 9:00 A.M. June 16th in the church’s north parking lot to answer any questions from the media. Due to tactical concerns, media will not be allowed to videotape or photograph the actual drills. However, visuals will be made available including some of the equipment which will be used in the exercise. Interviews with key personnel and video opportunities at the Plano 9-1-1 Center (10:30 A.M.) will also be available. The 9-1-1 Center is located at the Plano Municipal Center at 1520 Avenue K. # # #Editor’s Note: Go to the City’s Media Center for the new city logo and guidelines for use.Media ContactsSteve StolerDavid TilleyDirectorPublic Information OfficerMedia RelationsPlano Police DepartmentPh.
