How to setup a davis weather station (VantagePro2) using WeatherLink 5.6

1. To run the software, double-click WeatherLink5.6 icon.

2. If no stations have been assigned in the program directory, the software prompts you with the message “ Would you like to create a new station on your disk now?” Click “yes”.

3. Assign a station name and directory.

(You can go to File/New Station to set up a new station. If there is more than one station, you can choose a station from File/Open Station.)

4. Click “yes” when asked for Walkthrough Setup to set up a new station.

(You can also click Setup/Walkthrough to set this up.)

From now on, the software prompts you to fill in all the necessary information to run this software. You can configure your station by selecting options under Setup menu one by one.

Let me start with dialog messages automatically displayed.

(Italic: Walkthrough dialog messages)

Please specify your weather station model, optional sensors, download options, and Bulletin startup options.

-> Click OK

Name: (assign a name here)

Model: Vantage Pro

Rain Collector: 0.01 in

Click in the box, Solar Radiation. (and UV if needed).

If you want to download data automatically click the box. (Then you will be asked later to set up the download interval). When you use this option, only last 2 days of data is downloaded.

Please enter the communication port you are using

->Click OK

Click Auto Detect to find the right com port in your computer and click Test to check if the serial port is connected.

Please configure the Console Transceiver to receive data from the correct weather station(s).

-> Click OK

Others: off

Please choose the units for your weather variables.

->Click OK and choose the right units

Please set the barometer and elevation on your weather station.

-Click OK

Station Elevation:

133 ft (41 m) for Livingston, CA

171 ft (52 m) for Merced, CA

151 ft (46 m) for Atwater, CA

Sea-level barometer: leave it blank

Set the rain calibration number on your station

->Click OK

Set the rain cal number for 0.01 in collector? Click Yes

Rain Calibration number set OK ( Click OK

Would you like to set any Temperature and Humidity Calibration…….?

->Click Skip

Enter the Month which the Rainfall Season begins and the Year to Date….

-> Click OK

120 mm is rough estimate for Merced, California, 2007.

Set Time, Date, Time Zone and Daylight Savings settings.

->Click OK

The software automatically synchronizes the time with your computer.

->Click Set

Would you like to clear the archive memory too?

If you have data to retrieve in the data logger, Click No.

Otherwise, Click Yes

Set the archive interval on your weather station. We suggest using…..

-> Click OK

Set the appropriate logging interval.

This operation will clear archival memory

-> Click OK

Set the Latitude and Longitude on your station and software?

-> OK

Livingston: Latitude - 37, 22, 48 N

Longitude – 120, 43, 12 W

Merced: Latitude – 37, 18, 7 N

Longitude – 120, 28, 55 W

Atwater: Latitude – 37, 20, 53 N

Longitude – 120, 36, 29 W

Set Wind Cup size?

-> OK

-> Large

Would you like to set any alarms on your weather station?

-> Skip

Specify times to have your weather station automatically downloaded?

->OK if you set up this function (Skip otherwise)

->Add your station in the Auto Download List

->Click Download At to set the download times

-> Offset time: 5 min

-> Click OK

You are now done with the walkthrough. Would you like to go back?

-> No

Congratulations! Now your weather station started logging the data.

You can see your station name on top of the software.

A folder with your station name is created under C:\WeatherLink\

(Unless you changed the directory)

You can download data by clicking [pic] , then the data is downloaded under

C:\WeatherLink\”your station name”

The data file name is “download.txt”

You can click [pic] to see the data.

You can use these icons [pic] to see strip charts and plots.
