A Person Is a Person No Matter How Small...

Mississippi pro-lifers have had November 8 circled on their calendars for some time. That's the date voters head to the polls on a statewide personhood amendment. If it passes, Amendment 26--which defines a human life as beginning at the moment of fertilization -- could have major implications for pro-life legislation in the state.

At FRC, we've gotten several questions about the consequences of the bill and whether it would, for example, ban

in-vitro fertilization (IVF). To be clear, the amendment does not ban (or even address) IVF. But in theory, if IVF

were practiced in Mississippi in the way the industry is going (where no life is lost in creating more than one embryo, one egg=one baby), it would be a moot point anyway. … , FRC is happy to support this amendment showing

that a person's a person no matter how small. FRC's Ken Blackwell was on MSNBC's "Hardball" last night to discuss the amendment. To hear what he had to say about the issue, click on the video below. [ emphasis added ] Website © 2011 Family Research Council

CCL comments: FRC's Ken Blackwell did a good job standing up to pro-abortion Chris Matthews, however Blackell's mention of

the Pope is unfortunate. The Vatican’s Roman Catholic Pope is NOT pro-life, as evidenced in part by the previous opposition

of Pope-appointed Roman Catholic Bishops in the United States Conference of [ Roman ] Catholic Bishops [ ]

in at least seven States to State-level Personhood legislation during the years 2006-2010 (MICH, GA, CO, MONT, ND, FLA, MO).

In Mississippi, there are two Roman Catholic Dioceses: Jackson and Biloxi. The Roman Catholic Bishop of the Jackson Diocese has been opposed to the Mississippi Personhood Amendment going back to at least April 2009, refusing to even endorse petition-gathering efforts in Roman Catholic parishes. The NY Times (Oct. 25, 2011) reported that Jackson Diocese " Bishop Joseph Latino of Jackson, Miss., said in a statement last week that the Roman Catholic Church does not support Proposition 26 because “the push for a state amendment could ultimately harm our efforts to overturn Roe vs. Wade.” " [ emphasis added ]

By contrast, the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Biloxi Diocese was reportedly the first in the country to get on board with helping

the petition-gathering effort, and Biloxi Diocese persons had continued to help in other ways also. However, according to a

National Catholic online newspaper, "Following a September 16, 2011, event in Jackson attended by some 17 bishops, including

the Bishops of Jackson and Biloxi, Catholic backers of Amendment 26 received more disturbing news: a rumor spread that Bishop Roger Morin of the diocese of Biloxi had withdrawn his chancery’s support of the Personhood Amendment. On October 27, 2011, Shirley Henderson, director of communications for the Diocese of Biloxi, said that there had been no reversal; ... ; and that individual priests remained free to support or not support the amendment within their respective parishes." Then, in a November 2, 2011 article, "Biloxi Diocese takes no official stand on Initiative 26", the director of communications for the Biloxi Diocese said, “The stance of the Diocese of Biloxi is that the push for a state amendment could ultimately harm the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade, ...” However, the article also states the communications

director "emailed information she received from Personhood Mississippi to the priests in charge of the various parishes “to do as

they prefer.” " It appears now that the "official/public" position of the Biloxi Diocese is to line up with the anti-State-level Personhood legislation position of other Roman Catholic Bishops in the U.S. Conference of [ Roman ] Catholic Bishops, however individuals within the Biloxi Diocese apparently continued to support the Mississippi Personhood Constitutional Amendment. The NY Times (Oct. 25, 2011) reported, "The drive for personhood amendments has split the anti-abortion forces nationally. Some groups call it an inspired moral leap, while traditional leaders of the fight, including National Right to Life and the Roman Catholic bishops, have refused to promote it, charging that the tactic is reckless and could backfire, leading to a Supreme Court defeat

that would undermine progress in carving away at Roe v. Wade." [ emphasis added ]

Conversely, the NY Times (Oct. 25, 2011) also reported, "Conservative Christian [ CCL: ecumenical ] groups including the

American Family Association and the Family Research Council are firmly behind the proposal." [ emphasis added ]

The Pope is NOT pro-life. The Pope is pro-ROME.

2 Corinthians, chapter 11, KJV

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness;

whose end shall be according to their works.
