Year 6 Focus: Time Zones and Deserts

• I can use the index in an atlas to find places and use 6 figure references. E.g. 235392

• I can use maps to investigate a Global topic e.g. Which countries are most crowded/ richest/healthiest/have most natural resources, etc?

• I can name, locate and describe the largest deserts in the world.

• I know how time zones work and calculate time differences around the world.

• I can read and create simple maps using basic ordnance survey symbols.

• I can observe, measure, record and present data about human and physical characteristics of the local area .e.g. Is Colchester expanding? Is it a good place for children to live? What is our air quality like?

• I can collect and accurately measure rainfall, temperature and wind speed and direction.

Year 2 Focus: West Indies and UK

• I know the difference between aerial view and street view and can create a simple map of a familiar area using symbols and a key.

• I can describe geographical things that are the same and different about the UK, France and the USA e.g. Population, Climate, Language, Currency
