GOD/GODDESS ACTIVITY

GOD/GODDESS PRESENTATION

You will be researching either a God or Goddess from Greek mythology. Your job is to research the God/Goddesses you were assigned and present the information to the class in a short (2-3 minute) presentation using one of the approved formats. Also, you do not need to memorize any of this information. You may use note cards or an outline when you are presenting. Two students will present each day, so make sure you record the day of your presentation.

Option A: Individual Memory Box

For this option you will create a memory box for your assigned God or Goddess. For this project you will need a shoebox, creativity, and a deep knowledge of your God or Goddess. Requirements are listed below:

1) 5-6 items that represent your character. These items can be already manufactured or created by you. Items must represent the subject’s personality and morals, struggles and triumphs, not simply likes and dislikes.

a. There must be a key that identifies what each object is and how it represents your character.

2) 3 “photographs” or illustrations of events and people which are important to him/her. You will obviously need to create these yourself or find them on the internet. On the back of each “photo” you must write a note describing what the photo is of and who is in it.

3) You must include a brief autobiography (1/2 page – 1 page typed) written by your character explaining who he/she is. This should include information such as full name, occupation or hobbies, accomplishments, likes and dislikes, personality traits, family, friends, what makes he/she unique

Option B: Action Figure

Create a doll or action figure based on research about your assigned God or Goddess. Use details about the mythological character to complete the features and accessories of your character. Required elements are listed below:

1) FEATURES (3) -- Features are actions that the doll or figure can do.   Your doll or figure might be able to speak a line from a myth. Demeter might say, “Let’s grow some corn!” Poseidon might be able to swim. All actions should relate to the character you have chosen. These can be created or drawn.

2) ACCESSORIES (3) – These are small items that come with the doll or figure. For example, Zeus might have a lightning bolt or Aphrodite might have a hand mirror. These can be created or drawn.

3) VEHICLE (1) – Create a vehicle for your doll or figure. This can be an ancient or modern vehicle, but it must be relevant to your character. This can be created or drawn.

4)  ALSO COLLECT... (1 or more) – Make reference to another toy that might go well with the one you have created. For example, Barbie has all kinds of extras such as beach houses, pets, other doll friends, etc. This can be created or drawn.

5) Write a paragraph describing the different features of your toy including price and where it can be bought. Your paragraph should be persuasive. You should make us want to buy the toy!

Option C: Presentation or PowerPoint or Prezi

Required elements:

□ Greek name of God/Goddess

□ Roman name of God/Goddess

□ God/Goddess of what

□ Special powers/strengths

□ Famous relatives: mom, dad, siblings, children, spouse, etc.

□ Tell us a short story about your God/Goddess that tells us what you are famous for (don’t make up this story- read about your God/Goddess in Greek mythology!)

□ Dress like your God/Goddess

Remember that you are the God/Goddess so when you give your presentation you will say things like, “I am the God of __________.” Finally, to get into character you must dress up as your God/Goddess.

In class work days:
