Apple Crisp

Ingredients for Filling

4 c. thinly chopped Fuji apples (3-5 medium or 4 large)

½ c. white sugar

2 T. Flour

1 tsp. Cinnamon

1 T. water

Ingredients for Topping

½ c. Oatmeal

½ c. Flour

½ c. packed brown sugar

1/8 tsp. Baking powder

1/8 tsp. Baking soda

¼ c. cold butter

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. “PAM” a 9x9 cake pan

3. If using canned apple slices, cut each apple slice in half and place in a large mixing bowl. (If using fresh apples, peel, core, and slice apples paper thin or chop into very small pieces the size of a dime)

4. In another bowl, combine the ½ c. white sugar, 2 T. Flour, and

1 tsp. cinnamon using a wire whisk.

5. Sprinkle mixture over apples and stir to coat using wooden spoon.

6. Place apples in prepared pan and pack down.

7. Sprinkle the 1 T. water over apples in the pan.

8. In another separate bowl, combine the oatmeal, ½ c. flour,

½ c. brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda using a wire whisk.

9. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture looks like tiny dirt crumbs – looks like brown sugar.

10. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture & pack down lightly with a fork.

11. Bake for 40-45 minutes. (If using a glass casserole dish, bake 30-40 minutes without the lid on.)

Peeling apples

1. Peel apples with vegetable peeler or knife – TAKE A THIN LAYER

2. Slice with apple core/slicer

3. Slice each section very thin into many pieces.
