Madison ceremony planned to remember Cherie Prescott

As the Madison community mourns the death of Cherie Prescott, the 14-year attendance secretary at Madison Elementary, a group of staff and parents has teamed together to plan a special and permanent memorial. On June 4, a beautiful flowering pear tree will be planted in front of the school. We hope this serves as a lasting memorial to Cherie who was an avid gardener and landscaper at home.

A ceremony will be held June 4 at 4:30 p.m.

Those who would be willing to make a monetary donation to this effort may send a check payable to Madison Elementary labeled “Cherie Memorial” by June 5. Donations in excess of the cost of the tree will be given to Cherie’s family to begin a scholarship fund for Cherie's granddaughter. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Susan Nordmark at (630) 462-0753.

Sign up to chair or co-chair a PTA committee for 2013-2014

Chairing a PTA committee is often a great way to get to know Madison parents, staff and students—all while helping to make Madison a wonderful place for our children. The following committees need a chair:

• Beautification

• Spirit Wear

• Staff Appreciation

• Winter Carnival

The following committees have a co-chair who has had experience with the position, but we’d like someone to get familiar with the committee for future leadership:

• Cultural Arts

• Explore More Day

• Field Day

• Hospitality

For more information about each committee, go to the Madison PTA page of , and click on “Volunteer Opportunities.” You can sign up for volunteer opportunities when you register for membership of the PTA. Or, please contact Janet Mathis, janetmarkmathis@.

“Madison Paw Prints” yearbooks will be delivered soon

Volunteer at “Madison Meet and Treat”

The day before school starts, all students will have the opportunity to meet their teachers, see their classrooms, put away school supplies, and yes, eat some free ice cream. Students and their families are welcome. Classrooms will be open from 3-4 p.m., and we’ll serve ice cream in the gym from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Catch up with your Madison family, and help ease first day jitters.

We need people to scoop ice cream. If you can help, please contact Melisa Oker at melshimer@.
