Please save stamps!

Please save all your postage stamps for Stampede! It doesn't matter if they are the forever stamp, the flag stamp or anything else. The stamps are sent to a service that distributes them in those bags of stamps all of us sent away for as kids. The money goes to the Ronald McDonald House.

The McNair has been trying to participate in this for well over a year. So far, the second officer and the captain are the ONLY ones who've saved stamps. This is an easy thing to do; just snip the stamps off any envelopes you receive, save them, and give them to Pam or Jan.

I'm in charge of sending them away and would like to have more than the few she has saved herself and has gotten from Pam. What I've got now to send is pretty wimpy and won't reflect well on us when I send them.

This is a VERY easy thing to do so get cracking, folks!!

How Will the Future Unfold?

By Stephen Stott

I often have conversations with my mother concerning the Star Trek universe and how we might get there. Obviously in our world of reality things have not quite met the exact timeline of the Star Trek universe as we have learned. The Eugenics wars have not transpired and at least as of this date we have not endured our third world war. I would like to invite the crew to indulge me with your thoughts concerning how our future may or may not mold into the Star Trek universe. What types of events must occur for such a thing to happen? I am not talking about technological advances but I am talking about social and political issues that may drive us to this point. I know the old saying is never discuss politics and religion however I don’t see how we can ever get to a realization of the Star Trek universe without exploring such things. I greatly respect the views of others and I would enjoy a healthy bit of dialog on this issue.

My mother and I have a healthy debate because we are actually political opposites. She tends to be fairly liberal in her views while I am fairly conservative. The interesting fact is that we both love Star Trek and always are applying the Star Trek universe issues to our daily issues around the globe. For example, are today’s issues of terrorism and an unstable environment seeds for a world war three type situation? Do the religious views of the masses have a direct impact on our ability to live with respect of one another. Must religion be put to the side in order for us as a species to move to our next level of existence. Can we as a people actually evolve to the level of the Organians or the Q?

I invite us as a crew to open dialog and discuss such issues. We can either use the lists serve or publish articles of our opinions in the newsletter. I invite you to join me as we see, if at least in our own little world of the McNair, we can’t take our world to a place where Star Trek, the Federation, and all it stands for can become a reality.

Live long and prosper,

Stephen A. Stott
