The list of items will be taken from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and the eighteen short stories. If the item that you choose is Edvard Munch’s painting titled Puberty, you might write something likeThis is the painting in Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream that Luba Luft is looking at when Deckard and Resch approach her in the art museum. She seems to be fascinated with the painting because as an android, she never went through puberty herself. Deckard buys her an art book with a reproduction of the painting just before he and Resch “retire” scores will follow this pattern, using character names and relating the item to a significant moment in the plot. You may consult the key for the matching section while writing this portion of the exam.Part III. An Essay on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep [100 Points] For this section of the exam, you will write an essay evaluating Blade Runner as a film adaptation of Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Your answer should begin by introducing the novel and author, providing a short plot overview that emphasizes those aspects of the novel relevant to your thesis and stating a thesis that includes a list of the topics that you intend to develop. Your emphasis should be on those aspects of the novel that you believe are essential to the plot and then on whether or not the film successfully maintained the spirit and tone of the original novel. I anticipate that most of you will produce a 4-6 page handwritten essay in response. YOU MAY USE THE NOVEL WHILE WRITING THE EXAM. YOU MAY ALSO WRITE YOUR INTRODUCTION, INCLUDING YOUR THESIS STATEMENT, AND A LIST OF THE SUPPORTING EXAMPLES THAT YOU INTEND TO USE TO SUPPORT YOUR TOPICS ON TWO 4 x 6 INDEX CARDS.
