Quick Guide: Quizzes - Community College of Aurora
Quick Guide: QuizzesThe Daylight (D2L) learning management system has a built-in quiz area. Here you can create quizzes for students to complete online through Daylight. Quiz questions can be built by the instructor personally, or often times quiz questions are available through the textbook publisher and generally can be imported into the question library for instructors to use. This guide will discuss how to build a new quiz using instructor-created questions. Navigate to the Quizzes area of the course from the Assessments dropdown menu in the course navigation bar.Click on the New Quiz button. Type the title of your quiz in the Name field, then using the dropdown menus, select the appropriate Category. If you do not have pre-created categories, you can create new ones by clicking on the add category link.Click on the Assessment tab, and check the box next to Allow attempt to be set as graded immediately upon completion. Select the appropriate Grade Item – if no grade item exists, select add grade item to create one. Check the box next to Allow automatic export to grades. *Note – if you have essay questions which require graded by hand, do NOT check the box next to Allow attempt to be set as graded immediately upon completion.Still in the Assessment tab, scroll down to Attempts. Using the dropdown menu, identify how many times students can take the quiz, and how the quiz will be graded.Click on the Restrictions tab. Use the dropdown menu beneath Status and select Active when you have finished preparing the quiz and are ready for students to view and complete it. Assign specific start and end dates if you prefer. Now that parameters are set, create your questions in the Properties tab. Click on Add/Edit Questions. Click on the New button and select the type of question you want to create using the dropdown menu. You have several question options to choose from, but for this example we will choose a Multiple Choice Question. Type the Point value the question is worth in the Points field. Then type the quiz question in the Question Text box. Next, scroll down your page and type in the multiple choice responses you want students to select from. Then underneath the Weight (%) column, type in 100 next to the correct multiple choice answer. The remaining answers should maintain a 0 next to the Weight (%) column. Click the Save button to save this question and return to the main quiz screen. Click the Save and Copy button to save this question and make an exact replica of it to modify, or click the Save and New button to maintain the question type but clear your question and answer sections. When you are finished creating your quiz questions, click on the Done Editing Questions button at the top right-hand side of the screen. Click on the Save and Close button to return to your main Quizzes page. ................
